The Goddess in Europe

The People of Europe once worshipped the Goddess

in forests, at lakes, on mountains and in caves –

that instinct still manifests today, at carnivals, festivals and raves…

Her worship was led by women and queer gender-bending servants,

Hers were the powers of nature, the animals, the body and the moon,

But men turned the healing snake into the evil serpent

cast the body as unclean and made people ashamed,

and for humanity’s miseries women and queers given the blame.

Her worship was erotic, ecstatic, intoxicating

Her love is healing, revealing, liberating.

With Her out of the picture God becomes something separate

a presence to shake before in fear

but bring Her into your heart, mind and body

you will shake with pleasure, excitement and joy:

The Time of Return is Near.

The People of Europe still worshipped the Goddess through the dark age of Christianity

in secret as Diana of the Moon, Lady of the Beasts, and many other names,

meeting at night to dance and commune

to make love in nature as their ancestors had –

but the Church was determined to name their worship bad

and these days much of the world think to praise Her is mad.

The worship of the Goddess was transferred to the Christ Mother,

the Blessed Virgin, Sacre Coeur, her shrines filled the land

until dour, joy hating Protestants had even her banned –

ejected from the people’s hearts – this in turn playing its part

in preparing the way for an even colder age

of atheism, industry and abuse of the earth:

but as the darkness peaks there will come a rebirth.

Now the Earth is sick and the elementals gone crazy,

on an overpopulated planet where the people are lazy,

used to their comforts, feeding their greed

failing to address the ailing earth’s needs:

We must repair our relationship with the water, air, fire and earth

purify and renew and appreciate their sacred worth.

But as the darkness peaks a dawning appears

an awakening, a revelation of mysteries long concealed

it’s time for the forgotten Goddess to once more be revealed.
