There’s always been gay sex,
There’s always been men who loved men:
Anyone can have gay sex –
But for some it is a calling.
For some this is an abomination –
For those engaged in it, it’s Enthralling,
Ennobling, Liberating, Divine…
The ‘phobes have had it their way for too long,
Time for the ‘philes to have their time.
The definition homosexual is so limiting it beggars belief,
But those Victorian scientific minds
Didn’t care to find out
What the buggers themselves believed.
They didn’t read Whitman or Wilde,
Nor look at Solomon’s art,
Didn’t believe Edward Carpenter
When he foresaw for gay people a part
In the upliftment of human consciousness
To the highest heights of love.
Instead they labelled us sick
And found a label that would stick – Homosexuality was born –
A trait that can be traced
Back through the history of the human race,
Which process in fact reveals
Much that’s largely concealed:
In fact queers have featured large
In humanity’s greatest hours.
Far from the lowest of the low
Our ancestors have helped humanity grow
In the arts, in wisdom and knowledge,
They were often found in theatres, temples, at college
Also often in the militaryIn deep bonding brotherhood
Queers throughout history
Have often served the greater good.
So may our remaining shackles crumble
And the world see Who We Are:
Nature’s children born with grace
Here to liberate the human race
From a millennium of propaganda
Denigrating women, nature and nature’s men,
It’s time to restore the Goddess to her throne
And life on earth begin again.
This time may the template be love
And not judgement from above
May the divinity of the gay soul be set free
To enlighten the world with creativity.
May the joy of the queer spirit rise
And reveal to us our own disguise.
