Faerie Freedom Fuckers

We fight the good fight

with lipstick and kisses

made for pleasure not for punishment

we know that’s what a fist is;

faeries fucking for freedom

and fighting for the light

we’re frolicking and fornicating

to bring an end to the longest… darkest night.

.

Once, faerie menwomen opened

the gates to the cosmos

but power hungry straight men

became afraid of us…

they used their brawn

but we used our brains

hiding in temples, then theatres, monasteries, molly houses

we knew all along

our time would come again.

.

In Mesopotamia, in the temples of Inanna

the God Enki created the Galla, the name means penis-anus,

priests made to serve the Great Goddess of Love and War

In Turkey we were Gallae, serving Great Mother Cybele for millennia,

spreading into Greece, Rome and around the Meditteranean

long haired, bejewelled, loud and outrageous queers

leading ecstatic, raucous celebrations for hundreds of years:

beloved of the people and feared by the elite

crushed to extinction by the Christians in the 4th century –

but the Jewish Kings were at it first – over 1000 years before…

in Palestine we were Qedesha, Anointed Ones, and sodomy was our service

in the temples of Asherah, we were rounded up and massacred.

Muslim leaders did the same, wiping out goddess worshipping people

and her genderqueer priest/esses as they spread the

dictatorship of the Father God.

.

YET HERE’S THE THING…..

A sacred black meteorite was worshipped as Cybele’s symbol in her temple in Anatolia for thousands of years

and was brought to Rome in 200 BCE, installed with great fanfare in a new temple

as the Magna Mater was welcomed as the official deity of the Roman Empire.

When Rome collapsed the stone ‘disappeared’

But a sacred black stone, which “came down from Jannah (Paradise).” (At-Tirmidhi, Sunan, hadith no. 877) was installed by Mohammed at the Kaaba in Mecca in 605 AD –

this oldest mosque itself was placed on the site of an ancient pagan temple –

and to this day, Moslems flock to visit this stone

that may well be the meteorite held sacred to the Mother Goddess for many millennia.

Note too that in India the great god Shiva, who is both male and female, is worshipped as a black phallic rock, the shiva lingam.

.

The men of war made sex taboo

held down the power of women

made the queers feel shame

that’s how they took control

cut us all off from the whole:

without a strong feminine

and the queers with no role

the magic of life was lost

the earth, once our mother, became a resource

we are now seeing on the planet

the tragic cost:

mass extinction, all life under threat

the biggest step in humanity’s evolution

the biggest challenge yet.

.

Only by shifting our understanding of life

can humanity hope to change its ways and survive:

the good news on this terrifying journey is….

the Goddess and her Servants

are still alive…

and offering…

FREEDOM OF THE SPIRIT

Freedom of the Soul

FREEDOM OF THE BODY

and from any gendered roles

FREEDOM TO LOVE

and find out just Who We Are

FAGGOTS DYKES AND QUEERS

we unite the earth and stars

we’re coming out of the bars

to proclaim Who We Are

What we are, Why we are HERE

Why we are COSMIC AND QUEER.

.

Ecstatic celebrations

of body, mind, heart and soul

Fucking for freedom, to be whole is the goal:

Love, compassion and community

Queer pioneers reclaiming our forgotten role.

Cybele, Attis and the Gallae

Magna Mater to the Romans, crazy Goddess to Greeks, beloved Mother Cybele to the common folk, the queers, outcasts and rebels. Worshipped from 600BC in Greece, 200 BC in Rome and then across northern Africa, southern Europe and up as far north as Britain for 700 years, her priest/esses were known as the Gallae. The Sufi sect of Islam also originated in the same place and are sometimes considered to be the last manifestation of her cultic devotees. In Spain she became associated with Santa Eulalia de Boveda, whose sacred day is February 12th.

“They wear effeminately nursed hair,” complained Firmicus Maternus (4th century) “and dress in soft clothes. They can barely hold their heads up on their limp necks. Then, having made themselves alien to masculinity, swept up by playing flutes, they call their Goddess to fill them with an unholy spirit so as to seemingly predict the future to idle men. What sort of monstrous and unnatural thing is this?”

WIth frenzied dancing, drumming, whipping and screaming, long haired genderqueer outsiders brought the spring blessings to the people. St Paul was outraged. “for even their females exchanged the natural use for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise also the males, having left the natural use of the female, were inflamed by their lust for one another, males with males.”

cybele 6000 bce

The Galli come: And hollow cymbals, tight-skinned tambourines Resound around to bangings of their hands; The fierce horns threaten with a raucous bray; The tubed pipe excites their maddened minds In Phrygian measures; they bear before them knives, Wild emblems of their frenzy.” Lucretius, On the Nature of Things, 1st century

Cybele worship originated in the Anatolian region of Turkey, on the Asian mainland of the country, several thousand years before Christ, where she was simply known as Matar (Mother), and was for several centuries a prominent feature of religious life across southern Europe. We know that her genderbending priests, the Gallae were operating in Phrygia from at least 3000 BCE, and the statue above is dated to 6000 BCE. Both the Greek and Roman civilisations feared and respected the power of this Goddess and her flamboyant, loud and effeminate genderbending priests. Of these Gallae priests Augustine said “They are the sons of the earth. The Earth is their mother”, but he also complainted virulently about their habits, calling them “castrated perverts….. madmen…. foully unmanned and corrupted.”

Cybele was a nature goddess, whose worshippers were often from the lower orders of society including outcasts, slaves etc. Her gender-bending priests shocked the conservative Greeks and Romans, and both empires denied them citizenship, or even the right to enter the Great Mother’s temples.  Instead they lived together in bands and travelled around bringing their popular, wild and exciting, ceremonies to the people.  The lions at Cybele’s side (leopards in the earliest iconography) represent her loyal queer male servants. Her female priestesses were known as the Melissae (the ‘bees’) and her gendervariant priests as the Gallae (term said to mean ‘cock’ or to refer to the river Gallus, which ran by Cybele’s temple in Phrygia, the waters of which were said to drive people mad if drunk; gallus was also used widely as term for eunuchs).

The Gallae were known for their skills in divination, healing and the magical arts as well as for self-castration and flagrant sexuality. Worship of the Goddess through ecstatic and sexual rites was akin to the tradition of Goddess Ishtar/Inanna worship that had existed in the lands we call the Middle East for millennia, and when her religion arrived in Greece from the 8th century BCE she was associated with their Goddess Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, who gave birth to Zeus. The priests of the rational God Apollo warned the nervous Greeks that Cybele must be accepted into their pantheon or her wrath would be very destructive. The Greeks disliked the effeminacy, cross-dressing and sexual practices of the Gallae, so when temples to Cybele were erected the priests were forbidden from entering. So the Gallae became wandering, itinerant priests, bringing Goddess worship wherever they went. In due course, travelling widely with the armies of Rome, they spread their worship as far as Britain – one of their highly decorated tools used for the castration rite that formed a central part of their worship was found in the Thames at London Bridge, picture below, and a Gallus tomb has been found at Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland.

cybele clamps

Cybele worship was brought to Rome with great fanfare at the start of the 2nd century BCE, with a temple dedicated to her in 191. Rome was losing against Hannibal of Carthage in the Punic Wars – a consultation with the Cybelline oracle produced an ancient prophecy from the time of Rome’s founding, stating that at this low point it would be necessary to bring the Goddess in to the republic’s rescue. The Gallae in Phrygia were contacted and a black meteorite, symbolising her power, was brought by ship to Italy. In due course the worship of Cybele, known in Rome as the Magna Mater, became Rome’s only official religion. Caesar Augustus (27BCE – 14CE) acknowledged her as the chief divinity of the Roman Empire.

CYBELE.. GALLI PRIEST

We know a lot about the Gallae from the complaints that Greek, Roman and Christian writers made about their clothes, jewellery, make up, pierced ears and tattoos, long hair dyed blond, habit of depilation and loud wailing cries. First century Greek rhetorician Dio Chrysostom railed against men shaving their genital area as coming from their desire to be women, saying the men of the day saw masculinity as defective (toxic?) and so wished to become “whole beings and natural epicenes”. (Epicene referred to having characteristics of both genders, or being of indeterminate sex). Firmicus Maternus, who live in the 4th century rein of Constantine, the first emperor to convert to Christianity said that in the Cybele temples “one may see scandalous performances… men letting themselves be handled as women.” We know less of the practices of the all-female Amazon warrior women of ancient Scythia, but they too were Cybele devotees: classicist Walter Tyrell wrote that “their rites were orgiastic, attended by frenzied dancing and music, their votaries were women and eunuchs”.

“As the Gallae sing and celebrate their orgies, frenzy falls on many of them and many who had come as mere spectators afterwards are found to have committed the great act. I will narrate what they do. Any young man who has resolved on this action, strips off his clothes, and with a loud shout bursts into the midst of the crowd, and picks up a sword from a number of swords which I suppose have been kept ready for many years for this purpose. He takes it and castrates himself and then runs wild through the city, bearing in his hands what he has cut off. He casts it into any house at will, and from this house he receives women’s raiment and ornaments. Thus they act during their ceremonies of castration.”  Lucian, De Dea Syria 2nd century CE

During the first century of Cybele’s time in Rome, Roman citizens were not allowed to undergo the ritual castration, but in 101 BCE the law was changed so that certain citizens might become Gallae, and Emperor Claudius (41-53CE) removed the remaining restrictions. This tolerance did not last long. Domitian (81-91CE) once more forbade Roman citizens from becoming Gallae, and although this was reversed again by 239 CE, this last freedom to self-castrate was soon removed for good as Christianity consolidated its power in the Empire.

This castration ceremony stems from the mythology of Cybele and her consort Attis. Different versions of their story exist of course, and actually most of the iconography and story of this Goddess and her lover is lost to us, as the Christians made a special effort to destroy all trace of her worship from the 4th century onwards.

cybele and attis

Attis, the youthful consort of Cybele, was linked to Ganymede and often compared to Adonis and Pan. There are striking resemblances to Jesus too. It seems that the proud Cybele spurned the amorous advances of Zeus, who in his frustration masturbated his seed onto a rock. The rock gave birth to Agidistis, a being so powerful the Gods sent the young new god Dionysis to castrate them at birth. The pomegranate grew from their blood. Nana, a water spirit daughter of the River God, ate the fruit and became pregnant, giving birth to the beautiful Attis. However the River God, Sangarios, would not accept that this was a virgin birth and he sent Attis away to be brought up by goatherders. Attis and Agidistis met in the woods one day and became lovers – a tale full of shock and significance to the ancient Greeks as it involved the reversal of the accepted homosexual relationships of the time. In Greek culture it was considered acceptable for the older male to penetrate the younger in the sexual act. As Agidistis was a eunuch he took the passive role with the young, virile Attis.

Attis, Agidistis and Cybele became a Trinity of queer lovers. But Attis, brought up in the goatherder family, was also due to marry a human girl. Tales tell of frenzied ritual magic in the run up to the wedding, Cybele sending Agidistis to wreak chaos on the event.  The guests go crazy, the bride cuts off her own breasts and Attis castrates himself to avoid the marriage. The castration botched, Attis died and violets bloomed from his blood. Bereft, Cybele took her lover’s testicles, bathed them in holy water, wrapped them in his clothes and buried them in the earth. In the oldest versions of this tale Attis was reborn as the daughter of the goddess. As the Christian religion grew, and as the theme of death, resurrection and salvation took a more central place in religious thought, the Attis tales changed to depict him resurrected with a crown of stars, associating him with the Milky Way and calling him ‘the leader of the all the tribes of divine beings’ and the ‘servant and charioteer of the Mother’.

This very queer faith was one of the main rivals to Christianity in the first centuries of the Common Era.  Christians hated the effeminacy and sexual profligacy of the Gallae – similarly the ecstatic rites of Dionysus/Bacchus upset them too, because of the wild, uncontrollable, lusts and behaviours that the bacchanalian rites inspired in women, as well as between men.  Roman historian Livy recorded that at first only women worshipped Dionysus, and by day – once men got involved the worship moved to the cover of darkness.  “When the license offered by darkness has been added, no sort of crime, no kind of immorality, was left unattempted.”  Dionysus was a queer deity, known to be gender fluid, who, like Jesus was born of a divine father and human mother, and who was also said to have been killed (by the Titans) and restored to life. He visited Cybele in Phrygia and there learnt about the Mysteries, going on to bring the gift of wine – of ecstatic intoxication – to the people. Worship of this popular wine drinking reveller was a serious competitor to Christianity, we might note that Jesus felt the need to state ‘I am the true vine’, recorded in John 15.

In the ancient European pagan world the arrival of Spring was the occasion for energetic revelry, aimed at shaking off the residue of winter and riding the rising energies in collective ecstatic communion.  Bacchic cults were banned in Rome from 186 BCE because of the scandals increasingly associated with them, but they continued underground for centuries, and also from that time the Spring revelries were led by the Gallae devotees of the Magna Mater Cybele and her beloved Attis.

The main annual festival of Cybele, as with Bacchus/Dionysus, took place in the early Spring: the period March 15th to April 10th was known as the Megalensia. This period of celebration of Cybele and her consort Attis started with a period of fasting leading up to the mania of the Day of Blood on March 24th. On the Day of Blood frenzied ritual dancing took place, the Gallae working themselves into an ecstatic state, tearing their clothes, biting and flagellating themselves and each other. At the ceremony’s peak initiates castrated themselves, part of bringing themselves closer to the goddess and pursuing their spiritual growth. It seems that these frenzied Spring celebrations may have proven attractive to men in the crowds, who would be whisked up in the energy and leap forth to self-castrate. This may be why the Empire decided to ban this again so quickly.

attis6

On the 25th March Attis’ triumph over physical death was celebrated. The festivities continued with a period of games and entertainments leading to Cybele’s birthday feasts on April 10th. People loved these festivities, and so it is no surprise that the Christians chose this time of the year to mark Easter, the death and resurrection of their own deity.

St Paul‘s attacks on same-sexuality in the New Testament are entirely related to his dislike of the pagan practices going on around him. He said that in their idolatry, God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for even their females exchanged the natural use for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise also the males, having left the natural use of the female, were inflamed by their lust for one another, males with males, committing what is shameful…”.  In fact Jesus was most certainly referring to the Gallae also when, quoted in Matthew 19:11-12 that “there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.”  He then added, “Let anyone accept this who can.”

Apuleius (2nd century CE) tells an archetypical story of the Gallae, here meeting a travelling band Goddess servants:

“The eunuch, whose name was Philebus, led me off to his lodgings. When he reached the door he called out: “Look, girls, Look! I have brought you a lovely new man-servant!” The girls were a set of disgusting young eunuch priests who broke into falsetto screams and hysterical giggles of joy, thinking that Philebus really meant what he said, and that they would now have a fine time with me… This queer family included one real man, a great big slave, whom they had bought with money collected by begging. When they went out, leading the Goddess in procession, he would walk in front playing a horn–he played extremely well–and at home they used in him all sorts of ways, especially in bed.”

Apuleius also wrote that the devotees of Cybele, during rituals,

“went . . . forth, shouting and dancing . . . they bent down their necks and spun round so that their hair flew out in a circle; they hit their own flesh; finally, every one took his two-edged weapon and wounded himself in divers places. Meanwhile, there was one . . . who invented . . . a great lie, noisily . . . accusing himself, saying that he had displeased the divine majesty of the goddess . . . wherefore he prayed that vengeance might be done to himself. And therewithal he tools a whip . . . and scourged his own body . . . so that you might see the ground wet and defiled with the womanish blood that issued forth abundantly”
(The Golden Ass, VIII).

We also have a record left by Philostratus (end 2nd century CE), describing Gallae rituals where the priests embodied the deity Attis in order to have sex with worshippers who came to receive the essence and power of the God.  He said that “The tie between god and man cannot be thought of in closer or stronger terms, and they are joined by a feeling not only of lifelong gratitude but of personal love, which in its expression passes over into sensual terms.”

Note too that the leader of the Gallae, the Archigallus, led the ceremonial processions wearing a tall mitred cap, which was adopted by the Roman Catholics and is still worn by the Pope today.

attis2

Although conflicts between Christians and pagans built up from the 1st century onwards, the queerness of faith and worship in the ancient world was taken for granted until at least the 4th century and the eventual adoption of Christianity by the Roman emperors.  Many Greek and Roman deities were served by single sex cults which employed erotic energy in their acts of worship.  Emperor Hadrian (117-138 CE), a devotee of Earth Mother Demeter, had his own male lover, Antinous, raised to the level of a deity when he died in mysterious circumstances on a trip down the Nile, and within ten years this cult that honoured same sex-love had spread throughout the Roman world.

In the first centuries of the ‘Common Era’ it was by no means certain that Christianity would become the dominant religion. For one thing the Christians could not agree among themselves about their practice and belief. Some gnostic groups such as the Naasenes tied their faith in with Cybeline worship, and took the view that male-female sexual relations binds the soul to incarnation, due to reproduction, and that same sex love was much more pure and holy. This echoed ancient Greek views. Conflict around sexuality would continue to be an issue in the heretical movements that competed with the Roman church for the next ten to twelve centuries, several of which considered same sex activity more ‘pure’, or at least on a par with, heterosexuality.

The last record we have of Cybeline worship is from Aucun in France in the 5th century, after that the Church pretty much succeeded in wiping out all memory of her and her priests, to the extent that few queer people alive in the 21st century have any knowledge of this aspect of our ancestry.  She became absorbed into the legends of local Catholic saints in many places, which enabled the ordinary people to continue to celebrate her for many centuries. An example is Santa Eulalia de Boveda, in Allariz Spain, whose sacred day is February 12th, where the saint’s shrine was built on the site of a Cybele temple.

In the pagan world, deities were the gateways to ecstatic experience through ceremony, which was for all people, was known for being led by genderqueer priest/esses and was particularly focussed on the arrival of Spring.  Queers today are drawn to ecstatic, intoxicated, sexual experiences but in a world that has forgotten Cybele, Attis and Dionysis.  Bliss is a soul state, not a chemical experience, but the modern world has lost touch with this.  Yet the ecstatic call of the Goddess, suppressed for centuries in Judaeo-Christian-Islamic cultures, is ringing out in the world once more.  Queer visibility in the world is a sign of her return.  Queer energy often seeks ecstatic expression: Every journey into ecstasy changes us, transforms us – ask Dionysis or Attis – and ultimately heals or destroys us and the world we think we live in.

Living Our Priesthood in the World

An excerpt from Two Flutes Playing….

To be gay is something that begins within ourselves. In begins in our hearts, in that place that is never separate from the living heart of Infinite Oneness. To be gay is something that begins with ourselves, that finds itself mirrored back, echoed back to us by the tribe of men who love men. This tribe, our people , is a scouting tribe, a Walks-Between people, bridge-making people, walking between men and women, between night and day, between matter and spirit, between the living and the dead.

There are many tribes in the global nation of all tribes. For so long we have defined ourselves in opposition to the great and slow moving body of the nation of all tribes itself. We have defined ourselves, and been defined, by that which seemed to be in us most different. But a tribe must define itself from within, not without. And it is not our sexual nature alone, nor its difference from the woman-and-man-loving sexual nature of the body of the global tribe that makes us different.

In this time of crisis, it is the scouting people who hold out, by our very natures, the deepest vision of healing and peace that is possible for the entire global nation. A scouting tribe gathers itself from every other tribe, ethnic, racial, religious, regional, from every age and location, and finds common ground to connect.

Imagine a time when we find our rightful place in the tribe of all tribes. Imagine a time when we will have – not our own states, our own nations, but everywhere on the globe – centres, retreats, encampments in the midst of all the other peoples, places where we can go to heal, commune, remember and create, places where we can do our scouting work, for ourselves and the whole people.

Imagine this world. This world where any boy growing into manhood, who knows that his heart is a heart tuned toward men, can travel freely to one of these centres, with the blessings of the family that brought him into the world, there to learn about himself, his tribe, his heritage. In safety, in beauty, in love, he will be taken in to the tribe. In his own time, his own way, whole and strong.

One day there will be thousands of these centres all over the Earth. There we will deepen into ourselves as the Walks-Between People, so that we can share what we have learned about the places between night and day, female and male, body and spirit, with all the world. Each of these centres will be connected both through an energetic web and a technological and informational one. Thus, the men in each will be attuned to the others, in harmony with each other, communicating with each other, working and networking, loving and healing and dreaming together. For in dreams, in dreaming together, a tribe renews itself and remembers its most ancient roots. And a people that does not know its roots cannot live, anymore than a tree can live without its roots.

Never before, all over the planet, so strongly and so freely, have men who love men been able to meet in such great numbers. In this time, in our time, when spirit is more firmly rooted into matter, men who love men can come together – to hold hands, touch, sing, love, dance, speak from the heart and do the work of global healing our Divine Parents created us to do.

There are many different clans within our tribe. In our encampments there will be room for all of the clans, for all of the clans are needed. Sit together, walk together, sit under the moon, walk among the trees. Dance together, talk together. Find within your hearts the way to embrace each other, not exclude each other. All of our centres will be healing spaces, sacred spaces, and yet each will have its own character. Some will be monastic retreat centres, some will become artist’s colonies. Some will be schools for the healing arts, including the arts of sexual healing. There will be places for people to go on shamanic journeys, and there will also be schools for gay shamans.

One of our ancient roles as as midwives to the dying. Just as young men will be able to come to our encampments, so, too, will the elders of our tribe, after a life in the world, be able to come for comfort, security, to share their wisdom and be nurtured into dying, so that no man of our tribe need ever die unloved, unwanted or alone.

Many of us look for healing within ourselves only. We forget that while the true healer is within, true healing cannot happen alone. True healing happens in community, for no man’s imbalance is his alone. Balance and imbalance are all reflections of community. Sometimes we think that healing can happen in the arms of another man. But while the eyes of flame that light the soul can always come from another’s heart, true healing happens in community. We can help our lovers and be helped by them. But we cannot heal our lovers, nor can they heal us. It is only in the safety of a tribe, because of the safety of a tribe, that we are able to go inward to the deepest places, in order to be made whole, to heal ourselves.

Just as we come from every people, our power comes from what we bind together of the world. We are not a scouting people for ourselves alone. We will not off to our retreat centres to become separate from the rest of the people. We will go off to our sacred lodgers to study, heal, deepen and make ourselves ready to do our sacred work. But that work will take us back to the world, to share with the world. For our healing comes in community, our power comes from community, and our purpose comes from living in the community of the world, as healers, shamans and transformational artists.

Sometimes you look inward and cannot find the answers. But every man carries a piece of his tribesman’s answers. Through coming together, dancing, touching, praying, travelling to other realms, and speaking from the heart, each man can give what he carries to his tribal brothers, and each man can receive from his tribal brothers that which they have been carrying for him. No man is alone in this. No man carries his own information only. It is a loving act to share your healing with others. Let us heal together! Heal each other! Heal in each other’s hearts and hands! Makes places in which to heal. This is doing the work of our sacred priesthood. This is becoming who we are.

We enter a new era in our history. We enter an era when love and not pain will be our teacher, when joy and not sorrow will colour our lives. Never before on this planet have people lived this way. But after thousands and thousands of years of struggle and growth, we have come to the point in time when all of us fill be fully incarnate in our bodies, fully present as spirits manifesting in physical form. Without our wisdom and our power, humanity cannot make it to the next cycle. With our power and wisdom, shared freely with the tribe of all tribes, everything is possible.

Let us bless the tribe of all tribes that brought us into the world, bless the people through whose sacred bodies other people come. Let us bless all the scouting peoples, whose ancient and forgotten wisdom is being remembered in this time. And let us bless each other and ourselves. It is for this that our ancestors worked, that we ourselves worked in other lives – so that all of humanity, and we the tribe of men who love men, can step into this new era, the time of love on Earth.

Awakening the Joy-Body

Joy is a natural vibration that permeates life

Along with love, will, desire and need.

Joy opens the gates to connection without fear

Joy has no shadow

Joy is the soul at ease

we can find it how we please

two flutes

From Two Flutes Playing by Andrew Ramer:

“There is a primal force, the Creator of all that is. Whether we call it God or Goddess, it is the same Oneness. From the heart of this Oneness, four forces flow that sustain the universe. Physicists call them gravity, electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force. I call them love, joy, ecstasy, and bliss. We human beings are a weaving together of these four forces. The work of the past, the work of the spiritual teachers of the past, has been about love. But as we evolve it is time for us to explore who we are as beings of joy.

“Joy is the name for the single energy that we have seen as two distinct ones, as spiritual energy and sexual energy. The sharing of joy will be the major healing tool of the future. Dolphins and whales understand this, that free-flowing joy is the balance to love, the cross-weave in the fabric of life, able to hold all our pain and sorrow in its embrace….

“In our evolution as a species we have moved away from joy. In exploring our minds and the world we have divided, dissected, defined, and destroyed. But we are coming back to wholeness again, to Oneness, and to joy. Down through the dark ages of our history, it has been love that allowed us to survive. And in the next era of our history, it will be joy that heals us and renews us as a people….

“Feel the flickering of joy in your heart. Feel the shimmering of joy in your body. Feel joy in the earth and the sky. Breathe in joy and breathe it out again. Joy is a frequency that permeates the universe. Joy is the breath of the Divine….”

tumblr_oyuuhxJ7ry1wb4eowo1_1280

“We have been disconnected from joy for so long that it takes time for us to feel it in our bodies. The best technique I know for awakening joy is this. Each morning when you get up, touch yourself all over, massage yourself from head to toe. Joy is everywhere, and we have all been raised in a culture of fear and contraction. As you touch yourself, as you relax, speak softly to your skin, your muscles, your organs, your bones, your cells. As you massage yourself, say aloud to every part you touch, “This finger is holy. This elbow is sacred. These ribs are blessed. This stomach is sacred. This shin bone is holy. These balls, this cock, this asshole are blessed.” Say this out loud to every part of you, inner and outer. Touch every part of you, inside your ears and mouth, up into your armpits and under your balls. In blessing and naming every part of yourself, you will heal the separation between soul and body. Then joy will flow easily, in and out of every cell.

“Afterwards, you may want to pleasure yourself, to raise erotic energy. When this energy is strong, breathe it up into your abdomen and your chest, into your heart. Fill your heart with this energy. Feel it pulsing in your arteries and veins. If there is any part of your physical body that is tense, in pain, in need of healing, breathe this energy into that part. Use it to heal yourself. Breathe this energy into your hands. Feel it pouring out of your palms and your fingertips. Touch yourself with this energy, fill yourself with it, heal and bless yourself with it. Let the path grow familiar and strong from cock to heart to hands.

“If there are places in your neighborhood or anywhere on the planet that are troubled and in need of healing, beam the energy that fills your body out to them, from your heart, your hands or wherever feels right to you. Fill the airwaves with pleasure. Beam it out everywhere. Pleasure yourself and send this energy out into the heavens and down into the earth. Make love to everything this way, to clouds and rocks and planets and stars. Beam this energy into your food before you eat. This will both energize it and tune it to your body so that you can digest it fully and efficiently. If you are taking herbs or medications, beam it into them too, to tune them to your body the same way. When you connect with someone, remember that he is far more than just a physical body. Even when you are talking on the phone, he is touching you and you are touching him. The moment he walks in the door, even if you are 20 feet away, your subtle body is touching him and his subtle body is touching you. What do you feel? What do you see? Pay attention to all of this before you touch hands. When you are with someone, sense all the layers of his body. See how the energy flows in his body. Where does it flow smoothly and where does it get stuck? This is part of what our ancestors knew how to do. Subtle touch, the touch of energy before the touch of hands, is a part of love-making, too.

“Remember that you can overload someone’s circuits, give too much energy, or give it too quickly. A lover of men must know how to be intimate. Intimacy is a state in which energy flows freely from person to person, in and out of every organ, in and out of every cell. But many people are filled with love and still unhappy, because they do not know how to transmit it to others, or do not know how to receive it. Is your heart open? Can you give and receive love equally well? Can you give and receive love equally well—at the same time? Go back over your personal history. Explore all your relationships, with family, friends, and lovers. Where was there intimacy and where was there need? Where was there intimacy and where was there fear? If you are having difficulty being intimate, sit with a beautiful flower. Beam out energy from your heart to the flower, until it is filled with it. Then feel how the flower is beaming energy back to you with no reservations. Breathe in this joyous energy and be filled with it, in every part of you. When you are able to be intimate with flowers, go on to trees, to animals and then on to humans. To be able to do this, to be heart-centered, is what we came here for. Feel your heart spread out until it fills your entire body. Beam the energy of your heart out to the world, and let the world send it back to you.”

A QUEER HOMAGE TO THE GREAT MOTHER

Autumn Equinox 2018

librabalance (Copy)

“Here is a principal mythological role of the feminine principle: She gives birth to us physically, but She is the mother too of our second birth—our birth as spiritual entities. This is the basic meaning of the motif of the virgin birth, that our bodies are born naturally, but at a certain time there awakens in us our spiritual nature, which is the higher human nature, not that which simply duplicates the world of the animal urges, of erotic and power drives and sleep. Instead, there awakens in us the notion of a spiritual aim, a spiritual life: an essentially human, mystical life to be lived above the level of food, of sex, of economics, politics, and sociology.” Joseph Campbell, Goddesses.

Om Shakti Ma!

The flowing, glowing, loving, compassionate presence of Spirit has been known in many cultures as the divine feminine presence of the creator force of the universe: the Shakti or Shekhinah (the female Ruach (Breath of God) of the OT became the neutral (or male) Holy Spirit of the Christian Churches). We can commune with Her anywhere but we often do it most powerfully when we do it in union with others. That might be union of heart, mind, body, achieved through love, stillness, touch, dance, music – uniting the physical and the spirit through the heart and mind is what the divine feminine in us does.

So many names have come down through history to us, names that invoke her love and presence.

ISIS. ASTARTE. DIANA. HECATE, DEMETER. KALI. INANNA

are names known on a global scale, along with many more

DANU, RHIANNON, SULIS, BRIGIT, CERIDWEN, MORGAN, EPONA

are names that were once well known in the British Celtic lands

WORSHIP OF THE GREAT MOTHER, MAGNA MATER, CYBELE

was one of the three great religions of ancient Rome, but her roots go back millennia in Turkey, she was honoured in ancient Greece as Rhea, the Mother of Zeus and all the Gods, and her religion was brought to Rome with much more ceremony around 200 BC. Her worship lasted until around 400 AD and was then ruthlessly suppressed by Roman emperors seeking to use the rigorous Christian faith to impose order on society. The persecution of same sex love, of genderfluidity, and the witch trials of the 15-17th century were part of this ongoing suppression.

GREAT MOTHER WORSHIP HAS BEEN TRACED BACK ON THIS PLANET AT LEAST 10,000 YEARS, MAYBE MUCH LONGER

cybelerotate1

The shift to patriarchal religious domination was gradual, and is associated with the rise of property ownership, developing militaristic dictatorships, and shift in kinship system from matrilineal to patrilineal descent. Goddess worship was frequently hedonistic, sexual and ecstatic. It was often led by gendervariant and same-sex loving people, serving in the temples of Ishtar throughout the Middle East, as the wandering Galli priests who brought ecstatic ceremonies to the people of the ancient Meditteranean, and indeed as witches, druids and shamans of the old nature religions across the planet.

The suppression of the Goddess cults went hand in hand with the repression of same sex love. Sodomy and sorcery were intimately connected in the minds of the people. The patriarchal religions waged a war on both, creating a global situation today where the presence of spirit as the goddess, known through magical practice, is forgotten by most people, where people are brainwashed to fear or ridicule pagan faiths, and the spirituality of the genderbending queer servants of the goddess is utterly denied.

But in the early 21st century the Goddess is returning, and her queer children are visible on a global level and claiming their rights as never before. Most of those lgbtq+ probably have little or no idea of this ancient association between us and the magical realms of the spirit.

After a thousand years of suppressing sexual freedom and pagan lore in Europe, as Christian men went out to explore the world they were horrified to find sodomy a common occurrence on every continent, generally considered normal and often associated with shamanic power and witchcraft. They found powerful lesbians too – such as in the Azanda tribe in Africa. The South American rainforest is named the Amazon in reference to the mighty female-led tribes found there. In China and Japan homosexuality was viewed as a privilege enjoyed by the buddhist monastic classes – indeed monasteries and convents had often served as safe zones of same sex love in Middle Ages Europe.

The missing element in the story of global LGBTQ+ liberation is our connection to the spirit, to Goddess worship and pagan practice. This can only be PROPERLY understood of course by those who EXPERIENCE the truth of it.

Across the world there are Queer Pagans, Radical Faeries, Queer Spirits finding each other and remembering our magical powers. The people of the Great Mother are returning.

OUR TASK IS TO BRING BALANCE.

***

“The Mother of our ancestors birthed the universe from her body. There was no separation between Creator and creation. And as we shift our thinking and come back to this ancient wisdom, we will find balance and healing for ourselves. Ultimately the Creator is neither male nor female, but Oneness. It is the Prime Vibration. It is Absolute Information. In Seeing It as Mother we honour own own capacity for connection, compassion, clarity and communion of the soul. In knowing It as Mother we cycle back to the beginning of this era so that we can step into the next in wholeness.

The liturgies of the Father are spoken, as revelation comes the from the Father in words, for with words he created the universe. The universe itself is the revelation of the Mother, and her liturgies are of the body. As we open to seeing her and her creation, as we learn to feel our place in it and know that we are never separate from it, and cannot ever be separate from it, then everything we becomes a prayer. Anchored in love, our bodies filled with joy, reaching out in ecstasy to express our gratitude, we ground the Mother’s bliss in the world.

In our Mother’s world we do not have to struggle for enlightenment, Her light is always with us. We do not have to be reborn, for each moment of our lives is a new creation in her infinite, eternal body, and we are always a part of it.”

Calling all Queers!

witchcraft and gay counter culturecloseup

We look forward to creating a genuine Gay culture, one that is free from exploitation by bars, baths, and gay business owners. We look forward to re-establishing women’s mysteries and men’s mysteries as the highest expression of collective Gay culture and sexuality. We look forward to regaining our ancient historical roles as medicine people, healers, prophets, shamans and sorcerers. We look forward to an endless and fathomless process of coming out – as gay people, as animals, as humans, as mysterious and powerful spirits that move through the life cycle of the cosmos….. Like butterflies we are emerging from the shells of our past restricted existence. We are re-discovering the ancient magic that was once the birth right of all human beings. We are re-learning how to talk to the worms and the stars. We are taking flight on the wings of self-determination. Come, blessed Lady of the Flowers, Queen of Heaven, creator and destroyer, Kali – we are dancing the dance of your coming.”

Arthur Evans, Witchcraft and the Gay Counter-Culture

There are thousands of queers across the planet in Radical Faerie sanctuaries and other places remembering, discovering, exploring our connection to nature spirit, to the rhythms and cycles of the planet, to the flow of the divine feminine in creation, connecting – healing – uplifting us, and preparing us for the next steps, the incredible rediscovery and awakening of the gay wizards, witches, shamans, medicine people of all kinds.

Queers! We need to tune into nature. Cities are our playspaces, they are where we have found each other, in numbers, in strength, for the first time in human history over the past decades. We need our city spaces to find each other, but we need to get back to nature to find ourselves.

And to discover our natural powers.

The patriarchal, heternormative world wants to subsume us into its collective madness, to buy us off with marriage and civil rights.  It wants our pink pound.  But what do we want?  What are we bringing to the global story of humanity’s evolution?

We bring the magic, the queer eye that exposes hypocrisy, greed and ignorance.  We bring an age of love for all people of the planet.  But we first we go to find that love in ourselves, for ourselves and each other.

And what I assume you shall assume,

“Our beautiful lovely sexuality is the gateway to spirit. under all organised religions of the past, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, there has been a separation of carnality, or shall we say of flesh or earth or sex, and spirituality. As far as I am concerned they are all the same thing, and what we need to do as faeries is to tie it all back together again.”

The tribal attitude said, and continues to say, that Gay people are especially empowered because we are able to identify with both sexes and can see into more than one world at once, having the capacity to see from more than one point of view at a time.”

“Transgendered people have long been robbed of their own spiritual history, not knowing that there were once times and places where ours was considered a spiritual path in and of itself… We are all sacred and it is time that the world knew it.”

Raven Kaldera, Trans Shaman and Author

To be gay is something that begins within ourselves. In begins in our hearts, in that place that is never separate from the living heart of Infinite Oneness. To be gay is something that begins with ourselves, that finds itself mirrored back, echoed back to us by the tribe of men who love men. This tribe, our people , is a scouting tribe, a Walks-Between people, bridge-making people, walking between men and women, between night and day, between matter and spirit, between the living and the dead….

When purposeful, spiritual connection is forgotten, the depth of sexual connection often takes it place. Sex points one in the right direction, deep into the self, into the mystery. But sex alone is not the answer to the gay dilemma of the present, the sense of meaninglessness. A sense of spiritual participation in the community of the planet is the answer. For no one else will tell us our purpose. Its discovery must come from ourselves.”

EUROPE IS AN ANCIENT FAERIELAND

We tend to think of the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations as being relatively accepting of homosexual acts and relationships in comparison to the Christian culture that superceded them in Europe. But we have been misled. The Greeks and Romans tolerated same sex activities only in certain circumstances, most famously that between adult and younger men, the erastes and the eromenos. This relationship was seen as one of the foundations of the stability of society, but other forms of gay love were not applauded, and the passive partner in the sex act was looked down on.

Plato is sometimes quoted as praising the spiritual potential in homosexual love, but he went on to have a change of heart and spoke against it. Aristotle dismissed his ideas, and pointed out that the Celtic peoples of the north accorded it a special honour. Aristotle’s word for the passionate friendship between men was synousia. Among the Celts the passive partner in homosexual intercourse was respected.

The Greek philosopher Posidonius, 1ST century BC, traveled into Gaul to investigate the truth of the stories told about the Celtic tribes, and put it very simply: “The Gaulish men prefer to have sex with each other.”

“Although they have good-looking women, they pay very little attention to them, but are really crazy about having sex with men. They are accustomed to sleeping on the ground on animal skins and roll around naked with male bed-mates on both sides. Heedless of their own dignity, they abandon without qualm the bloom of their bodies to others. And the most incredible thing is that they do not find this shameful. When they proposition someone, they consider it dishonourable if he doesn’t accept the offer!” —Diodorus Siculus, a Greek historian living in Roman Empire, 1st century BCE, writing about the Celtic Europeans.

Eusebius of Caesarea, wrote that “Among the Gauls, the young men marry each other (gamountai) with complete freedom. In doing this, they do not incur any reproach or blame, since this is done according to custom amongst them.” (4th centtury CE)

Bardaisan of Edessa wrote that “In the countries of the north — in the lands of the Germans and those of their neighbors, handsome [noble] young men assume the role of wives [women] towards other men, and they celebrate marriage feasts.” (2nd century CE)

“Celtic mythology is riddled with deities who do not fit neatly into rigid, stereotypical gender roles. There are Goddesses of war and battle and Gods of love and poetry. There is also a tradition of male praise-poets who wrote about the kings they served as a lover writes of their beloved. Many historical commentaries on warriors and monastics speak of devoted companions who shared a bed and often the love between these companions is celebrated in poetry and songs.” http://veryjoeandbullish.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-celtic-brotherhood-homosexuality.html

Legends say the Celts fought their battles naked and had no fear of death. Even Julius Caesar commented on this, and recorded that the Celts were quite confident of the existence of ‘the otherworld’, a fairy land type parallel reality that souls return to at death.

If you look up History of Homosexuality on the net you will likely find the starting point to be commentary about ancient Greece, perhaps with some references to Egypt and the ancient Middle East. But the truth about Celtic Northern Europe is hidden away from sight. It’s time to raise the veil and reveal that old Europe was a very queer place.

As the hidden history of the queer people of planet Earth gradually becomes more known, we are learning that when European explorers set foot in the Americas, north and south, same sex love and transexuality were often considered quite normal.  What’s more these attributes were often associated with the shamans, the medicine people, the priests and wizards of the tribes.  In Buddhist China and Japan homosexuality was considered a privilege enjoyed by the monastic classes.

The Dagara tribe of west Africa has retained their ancient understanding of the gatekeeper role to this very day – in her book, The Spirit of Intimacy, Dagara teacher Sobonfu Some writes, –

The words gay and lesbian do not exist in the village, but there is the word gatekeeper. Gatekeepers are people who live a life at the edge between the worlds – the world of the village and the world of spirit. Though they do not marry in this world, they say they have partners in other dimensions.

“What they do, they don’t like to communicate to anyone. It is their right to keep it to themselves. Everybody in the village respects that because without gatekeepers, there is no access to other worlds. Most people in the West define themselves and others by sexual orientation. This way of looking at gatekeepers will kill the spirit of the gatekeeper. Gatekeepers in the village are able to do their job simply because of strong spiritual connection, and also their ability to direct their sexual energy not to other people but to spirit.

“The gatekeepers stand on the threshold of the gender line. They are mediators between the two genders. They make sure there is peace and balance between women and men. If the two genders are in conflict and the whole village is caught in it, the gatekeepers are the ones to bring peace. Gatekeepers do not take sides. They simply act as “the sword of truth and integrity.”

In the village homosexuality is seen very differently that it is seen in the West, in part because all sexuality is spiritually based. Taken away from its spiritual context, it becomes a source of controversy, and can be exploited. In the village, you never see gatekeepers, or anybody for that matter, displaying their sexuality or commenting on the sexuality of others.

“Gatekeepers hold keys to other dimensions. They maintain a certain alignment between the spirit world and the world of the village. Without them, the gates to the other world would be shut.

“Gays and lesbians in the West are often very spiritual, but they have been taken away from their connection with spirit. My feeling is that without that outlet or that role in the culture, they have to find other ways of defining themselves. This could be one of the reasons why they would want to get married or make themselves look as though they do not have a unique purpose.”

Passing

The Soul decides when it’s time to go

the Body knows and it lets it show

We can resist, we can assist

Dying is inevitable but it’s not the end

As the portals open

We can see, we can listen

Between the Worlds

To the Ancestors’ songs

We might speak of what we see and hear

This will help release the fear

From all those at our side

We might remember why we came here

See the many gifts of being queer

Understand our connection to the invisible worlds

And bring through the blessings, the love unfurled

From Two Flutes Playing:

“Life does not begin at birth or end at death. Life extends beyond body and time, into and out of a spaciousness like the most powerful of dreams. Words alone cannot describe it. Perhaps 3-D film might one day do it, reveal the fluid vastness that life is. But one aspect of life is creating a body to focus yourself in. To do this is holy, to do this is a gift. You live in many bodies, as a painter paints many canvasses. Death is not the destruction of the artist. Death is the beginning of another phase in your timeless creativity.

“Gayness is the coming together of certain strands of humanness. This particular arrangement, particular frequency, resonates well with certain functions in the human community. It is a nurturing frequency, a strong and caring one, that expresses itself in every possible way, yet excels at certain ones. To make art, to dance, to make beauty of body, food, home, all of these can be gifts of this energy. But working with those who are dying, working with death, is one of the skills that have been forgotten, not only by your community, but by the world itself. And many have died without the comforting hand of son, cousin, friend. But time brings all powers back to themselves. Time makes you remember this….

“You as soul create many bodies to express yourself through, in different times, in different places, as female and male, as straight and gay. You are born many times and you die many times. Death is that part of the soul’s process of recreating itself. The work of gay midwives to the dying is not easy. But you can tap into the place where you have done it before. You can tap into your guides, you can tap into the source of love, which permeates the universe. Love binds all together. No one is separate from love, from spirit. And death is not a separation. It is only a change in frequency.”

rainbowsigns3

Life and Death having a conversation where Life asks, “How come people love me yet hate you?” and Death replies, “Because you are a beautiful lie and I’m a painful truth.” Life is called Maya by the Hindus and Samsara by the Buddhists, an illusion of separation and suffering to be seen through, understood and transcended. Finding peace with death is the fastest way to do that. It’s not generally that we choose when we face our feelings and fears about death – it is quite usual that life deals us a card at a certain point on our journey which brings our mortality into focus.

Day is balanced by night. Summer is balanced by winter. Female by male. Right by left.

Life is balanced by death.

Modern culture in the west has cut us off from our own deep inner understanding of death and the spirit realms. The process started under the monotheistic religious hegemony as the priests made entry into heaven dependent on obeying the rules set down for life, but modern generations are afraid of death also because the rationalist atheistic worldview denies that there is any possibility that our core substance, our sense of self, survives the demise of the body.

Yet the world is still full of believers in the spirit, whose hearts just cannot let go of faith entirely just because the rational modern culture tells them to. The heart knows through feelings, which are deeper than words, more ancient and more in touch with the profound and the sacred. And increasingly there are believers who have removed themselves from the philosophical grip of mainstream religion and prefer to think for themselves, respecting and learning from all the mystical pathways of planet earth rather than making one right and the others all wrong, and from direct interaction with spirit.

Belief in a divine source and presence within creation leads to experience of that blessed sacred being, which can come in many many ways. It can manifest as inner peace or ecstatic joy, as a powerful compassionate love for all beings, creative outbursts, or direct communication, in words, pictures or feelings, with other levels of consciousness. Experience leads to faith and the realisation that the spirit is alive in all beings, giving life to all beings and knowing itself through all beings. Humans really are incredible creatures, but to discover our potential we need to face our fears, the biggest of which are usually related to ‘god’ and death. The good news is that god really is love, and not an overbearing patriarch: god, as the shaman says, is life itself. To get to know god-ness, focus on that, not on myths designed to scare the populace into obedience, and we can move on from the age of patriarchal control via religion and the sword, and from the confusion and disrespect for life and the planet that comes from an spirit-denying attitude to life.

If we open ourselves to the flow of spirit through life and feel the existence of eternity within our own being, it gets easier to drop the fear of death. Then we really can become more alive, in the moment, open to what the universe offers us. We can drop the emotional loads we carry and forgive ourselves and others for the mistakes we have made due to fear or ignorance. We can literally enter into a new life, reborn to be miracle workers and help humanity stop fighting over beliefs and GROW UP in time to take care of our ailing planet.

From Earth Ancestors, Two Flutes Playing:

“What began with a planetary threat of death by ice now ends with your threat of death to the planet itself. But you survived the ice. You can survive your own inventions if enough of you are able to reconnect to the love in yourselves and begin to share it in the world. There are many, many thousands of us here, Earth Ancestors. Some of us are connected to places on the planet itself, while others are bound to activities, actions, crafts, to groups of people. We are guides and teachers, pattern-carriers. We are woven into human consciousness. Many of us are the particular guides of the gay tribe, sharing our ancient wisdom with you, for we are planetary archivists. But above all—we are Friends. As you evolve, we evolve also. As this next cycle of human history begins, we shall move on and some of you shall take our places, woven into human consciousness, as sign posts for the next cycle of incarnational history. You shall become the guardians of love and work and exploration. You shall join the flow of human sentient Earth energy, as it takes its rightful place in the universal web of consciousness, linking planet to planet, incarnate and discarnate, physical and non-physical. Joyfully. For the soul.

“There are thousands and thousands of us, discarnate Earth Ancestors. We are with you all the time. All that is needed for us to reconnect is your turning toward us in stillness and speaking, your turning toward us in dream and allowing us to come through. Anyone can talk with us. Once, all human beings did it, and one day soon all human beings may be doing it again. For some, it will be easiest to begin by reaching out to someone you have known and loved who has left the physical realm. Talk to them, call on them. Feel their presence, remembering that not everyone will communicate in words. Some will see pictures, some will feel energy, others will simply move from a place of inspiration. Some will sense light, others will be filled with sound or with vibration. All of this is connection. Not words alone, but feeling, love. Turn to us. We are waiting. Trust that the doors between incarnate and discarnate can be opened again. Move through that door from a place of love and wisdom in yourself, and expanded love and wisdom will meet you. Some will see us, some will hear our names. Many will find it easiest to sit quietly with paper and ask for words to be given through you. It may take time to tell the difference between what you write and what is written through you. But we are all one, and it doesn’t matter who said what you write, if it is loving, practical, spiritual and useful.

We are all one, all connected. Let love come through, and it will guide you. Call on us in love. Call on us when you sit alone and in your tribal circles. Call on the scouting ancestors of the East, the flute playing ancestors of the South, your shaman ancestors from the West, and your hunter ancestors from the North. Ancestors, grandfathers of the gay people, call on us in your meditations, and we will be with you to inspire, heal and guide you.

“We are ancient. Our wisdom predates all religions on your world today, although what we taught your physical ancestors remains in the heart of all your faiths. We can step in and out of linear time, although that is not the only time there is. And as your history carries you to the end of this current era and the beginning of the next one, we who have been with you since its beginning make ourselves known to you again. In the past, people turned directly to us for advice. But as information was codified, in story, song, memorized or written down, the connections between incarnate and discarnate humans were largely forgotten. Not lost, but obscured. Not discarded, but misunderstood. People forgot how to make those connections, except through trance or mind-altering substances or accident induced by trauma. People at the end of the Ice Age could all talk to us as easily as you now talk to someone on a phone. Then in a period of less than two thousand years, as the ice withdrew and humans turned their attention to other matters, the close, intimate, constant connections between all incarnate and discarnate human beings changed.

“We did not go away, the Earth Ancestors. But you only opened up to us in trance, in vision, in dream. We sustained unconscious connections as you learned to live in the world in a different way. Till you came to the point in your history when you could both live in a world of technology and communicate with the discarnates. You needed to do this, in order to evolve in consciousness. But now it is time to own your skills and function out of a new wholeness.”

Challenges of Spiritual Manifestation

An excerpt from Two Flutes Playing by Andrew Ramer……

Very early in its history an asteroid came crashing into the planet Earth, knocking it off its course, causing physical damage, and tilting it on it axis. This event disrupted the inner and outer layers of the planet, creating an instability that in order to balance itself out, ultimately resulted in the birth of what you recognize as life. Earth is still unstable at its core, it still wobbles on its axis—in fact everything that lives upon it wobbles. To some, that is an awful tragedy, the cause of their difficulties, the source of their inability to successfully manifest spiritual intentions. For there are planets that do not wobble on their axes, do not have unstable cores. And certain individuals have lived before on such worlds, or visited them between incarnations. And when they get to Earth they often complain about the way that things are here. It does no good to tell such individuals that they have chosen to incarnate here, that no one forced them to do it. It does no good to remind such individuals that this world is one of the most varied and beautiful in this galaxy. The best that one can say to make life a bit easier is that the very factors that make Earth life difficult also make it challenging, creative and exciting.

If you have lived on a planet with a stable core whose axis does not wobble you will know what I am talking about. On such worlds, spiritual life is not difficult, one does not have to struggle to learn, remember and manifest spiritual intentions on the physical plane. But worlds like that are boring. They may not have war. But try and imagine a world where people whistle the same song for ten thousand years, and styles of clothes never change, and the same chants recited over and over again for millennia echo in the courtyards of their sacred places. That kind of life suits certain individuals. But if you are here, you can be certain that you left such a planet or checked it out and decided against it. For with all its faults, life upon the living, breathing being you call Earth is challenging and infinitely creative. The soul is stretched to its fullest capacities. And ultimately, the great difficulty is more than balanced out by the joy of Earth’s diversity and infinite creative possibilities. In a single Earth year in a single city, more songs can be written and performed than on certain planets in their entire history. Please remember that.

Some people would like to stabilize the core and right the planet’s axis. No matter that the planet enjoys its dance, its tilt. Some people, indeed some cultures, have set themselves up in the business of generating planetary stability. To this endeavor the Earth keeps saying, “No, just learn to dance with me.” It shimmies its surface, it drums at the core. It sings and it chants. Energy lines flow and spiral and weave themselves around the planet’s body in strange ways. Its continents are unsymmetrical. It storms and it rages. Such is its essence. Such is its nature. It shifts and it changes. Too fast for some, too often for many. But in its changing is growth and transformation. And those who have come knew this when they arrived here, emerged here. It is time to remember that. Time to move with it.

This planet is a pearl of great price. Its irregularities are what make it so valuable. So you can resist the Earth’s changing, get angry at it, or you can deepen yourself into its flesh and dance with it. Pain, suffering, are not the result of this instability at the core. Fear of the instability is the cause of those conditions. There are more unstable worlds. Worlds with many suns and moons all tugging at them. Worlds with earthquakes and volcanos in constant motion. Worlds whose surfaces bubble endlessly like oatmeal. The beings there adjust to them eventually, move with them. It may take life after physical life. But they do it. As you shall, on your dancing planet. If your ideal of perfection is changeless, if you imagine an Earth where things stay the same generation after generation—imagine again, for that will never happen. So too, if your goal for yourself is a state of static beingness, you need to change it. All life wobbles on this planet. Wobbles, or dances. As sometimes, when someone bumps into you on the dance floor, you turn to them with anger in your eyes. And sometimes, you turn to them and love stares back, and the bruise on your thigh was all worth it. So with Earth. It smiles, and rubs its hip.

When you understand fire, you no longer stick your hand in it, you contain it and cook with it. When you understand the wobble, you no longer fear it or hate it, you move with it, use it. And sometimes, when your life is a mess, when you’ve been in therapy for 57 years and you’re still falling in love with the wrong person—stop blaming your parents or yourself. Stop and take a deep breath and say to yourself—“I’m living on a world that wobbles on its axis. It has seasons and changes. And sometimes, what seems to be going wrong in my life isn’t really a flaw in my nature. It’s just that I haven’t learned to wobble with the world yet.” The Earth laughs at itself. Can you? Can you feel it laughing?

Gatekeepers: Gays in The Dagara Tribe

I feel very fortunate to have met Sobonfu Some in 2016 at the Summer Solstice.  I asked her a question about the Dagara tribal attitude to gay people and the room was suddenly engulfed in a huge smile and laugh from the lovely Sobonfu.   “We don’t call them gay” she said, “they are the special ones, they are the gatekeepers, without them nothing can happen.”  The open mouthed shock on the faces of the white middle class audience was a treat.

Sobonfu left her body in 2017.  I had asked her to speak more about the gatekeepers, to come to LGBT spiritual events and give talks, but she insisted that it was not her place to speak on behalf of the gatekeepers, that the elders did not want her to, and said she had already written all that she could share in her book, ‘The Spirit of Intimacy’.

Below is the chapter about the gatekeepers from that book, shared here because this should be found and read by as many people as possible.  I observe I am not the only one to think this, and have included below a couple of Youtube links where the chapter is read out loud.

First, here is a quotation from THE ASCENSION GATEWAYS: Entering the Realm of the Otherworlds — Part 5 by GW Hardin

“Humans are living gateways. For millennia, indigenous peoples have known of these gateways in nature, used in secret ceremonies that gave them access to the otherworlds… There is a reason why humans have the ability to become gateways. We stand at the great threshold, which some would call a great divide, between the vastness of the macrocosmic universe and the breathtaking microcosm of the subatomic underworlds…

“From the ancient ways of the Dagara tribe of Burkina Faso, we learn that these different dimensions had different purposes and different vibrations that Mother Earth herself needed in her own growth, her own Ascension. Without the gatekeepers, Mother Earth, left to herself without the higher vibrations, would have to grow in ways that created violent change. From the ancient teachings, we learn that two gatekeepers are needed for any gateway to open, one on each side of the dimensional opening. Once these gateways were open, not only were energy and vibrational harmonics exchanged, but, depending on the spiritual advancement of the gatekeeper, information, etheric travel, and even in rare occasions, physical travel were possible. The gatekeepers were so revered by the Dagara, that spying on a gatekeeper in ritual was punishable by death.”

CHAPTER 13

HOMOSEXUALITY: THE GATEKEEPERS

The words gay and lesbian do not exist in the village, but there is the word gatekeeper. Gatekeepers are people who live a life at the edge between the worlds – the world of the village and the world of spirit. Though they do not marry in this world, they say they have partners in other dimensions.

What they do, they don’t like to communicate to anyone.

The gatekeepers stand on the threshold of the gender line. They are mediators between the two genders. They make sure there is peace and balance between women and men. If the two genders are in conflict and the whole village is caught in it, the gatekeepers are the ones to bring peace. Gatekeepers do not take sides. They simply act as “the sword of truth and integrity.”

There are many gates that link a village to other worlds. The only people who have access to all these gates are the gatekeepers. I should mention here that there are two different kinds of gatekeeper.

The first group has the ability to guard a limited number of gates to the other world, specifically, those that correspond to the Dagara cosmology – water, earth, fire, minerals, and nature – because they vibrate the energies of those gates.

The second group of gatekeepers, which is our focus here, has the responsibility of overseeing all the gates. They are in contact not only with the elemental gates but also with many others. They have one foot in all the other worlds and other foot here. This is why the vibration of their body is totally different from others. They also have access to other-dimensional entities such as Kontombile, small beings who are very magical and knowledgeable. They are known as leprechauns in the Irish tradition.

Now what would happen if you’re dealing with a culture that doesn’t care about these gateways? What happens is that a gay person cannot do his job. Gatekeepers are left unable to accomplish their purpose. This is one of the most distinguishing factors about gays in the village. Now, as to their sexual orientation, nobody cares about this questions: they care only about their performance as gatekeepers. I figure if they want people in the village to know about their sexuality, they will share it with them. I once heard that one of the reasons why gatekeepers are able to open gates to other dimensions is in the way they use their sexual energy. Their ability to focus their sexual energy is a particular way allows them to open and close different gates.

The life of gay people in the West is in many ways a reaction to pressure from a society that rejects them. This is partly because a culture that has forgotten so much about itself will displace certain groups of people, such as the gay community, from their true roles.

In the village they are not seen as the other. They are not forced to create a separate community in order to survive. People do not put a negative label on them, they are regarded no differently than any other child of the village. They are born gatekeepers, with specific purposes, and are encouraged to fulfill the role they’re born to in the interests of the community.

In the village, gatekeepers have an eye of both genders. They can help the genders to understand each other better than usual in their daily life. That’s why a group of women, for example, might gather and bring a male gatekeeper to help them understand certain village issues. The same things happens on the other side, with a female gatekeeper coming into the middle of the men’s circle.

Gatekeepers hold keys to other dimensions. They maintain a certain alignment between the spirit world and the world of the village. Without them, the gates to the other world would be shut.

On the other side of these gates lies the spirit world or other dimensions. Gatekeepers are in constant communication with beings who live there, who have the ability to teach us how to deal with ritual. And gatekeepers have the capacity to take other people to those places.

A gatekeeper’s knowledge is different from the knowledge of mentors and elders. This is because elders do not necessarily have access to all the gateways. The gatekeepers on the other hand, have access to all the dimensions. They can open any gate. Although their knowledge is very broad, elders will call upon gatekeepers to help them open a particular gate or help them better understand what the spirit world is about.

Gays and lesbians in the West are often very spiritual, but they have been taken away from their connection with spirit. My feeling is that without that outlet or that role in the culture, they have to find other ways of defining themselves. This could be one of the reasons why they would want to get married or make themselves look as though they do not have a unique purpose.

I have seen people in the West who have lost their identity try to usurp the role of gatekeeper once they learn about the power it involves. They do this for their own benefit, without really knowing what it means to be a gatekeeper. Being a false gatekeeper is not helpful to anyone. It can only be harmful to the usurper.

These people need to understand that in the village a person doesn’t become a gatekeeper out of a desire for power or even because of sexual orientation. No. Gatekeeping is part of one’s life purpose, announced before birth and developed through rigorous initiatory training to ensure that its power is not misused. A gatekeeper is responsible for a whole village, a whole tribe. Gatekeeping is not a game.

URANUS: Queer Planet

uranus in taurus3

URANUS has shifted sign from fire Aries to earth Taurus. Astrologers are excited, for Uranus is the planet of inspiration, awakening, revolution and liberation. Beginning a new traversal of the zodiac from the first sign Aries since 2010, Uranus has spent 7 years subtly changing our very understanding of who we are. This shift can be observed in the rise of social media to a central place in modern life, with every generation getting on board. We are busy defining ourselves through our online presence – the self has taken the centre of our attention, but is often appearing in very superficial ways – looks, likes, selfies, followers etc. During Uranus’ time in Taurus we can expect that things will get more meaningful. Taurus energy is interested in what we are worth, which can relate to money and status but which has much deeper levels going on too.

Astrologer Sarah Coughlin (on Refinery29) says “Aries compels us to define who we are, Taurus nudges us to consider what we’re worth”. She says Uranus moving into the sign of the Bull for a “nice, long, script-flipping stay.”

Brianne Hogan writes (on Hellogiggles) “Uranus may mean freedom, but Taurus keeps us grounded…… We will experience many changes and shifts in the aforementioned areas for the next eight years, but these changes will also stem from a place of authenticity and practicality. We’re getting honest with ourselves and our future, while also being smart and informed about the choices and changes we make. We can expect the unexpected for the next few years, but we can also count on our ability to handle it.”

Kate Rose (on Yourtango) says “Uranus is nicknamed the great awakener; a force of sudden change and innovation… During the Aries era, we saw ourselves change how we viewed ourselves, our relationships and love in general … now is the time to ground ourselves, our plans and our dreams so that we can grow them with a stable foundation.” Perhaps we might add that due to the surprises that Uranian energy can deliver, those plans and dreams may be in for some radical changes and unanticipated developments.

Yasmin Boland in the Daily Mail says the Uranus move is “triggering a period of worldwide upheaval…. The key here is to work with the energies of change, and not against them. Uranus is the planet that causes us to evolve and pushes us to our limits…. harness the Uranian energy to write an exciting new chapter of your life . . .  Be yourself! Uranus is very much the planet of individuality, so if you want to embrace the changes Uranus is offering, then you need to be true to your highest self — the best part of you…. This is a wonderful time to override any fear you have about change. So tune in to what you really want — the Uranian energy will push you along. There will be disruption, but harness the energy and enjoy the ride.”

Colin Bedell (on QueerCosmos) says this energy shift will “revolutionise our lives….This. Is. Huge. Whether we like it or not, the Universe will make sure we set ourselves free a la Uranus from values that prevent from accessing the deepest, most meaningful experiences of our life. Where and with whom we place our value will forever change. Especially on the personal, relational, political, and international arenas. This Uranus in Taurus transit has the potential to change the entire foundation of our lives.”

URANUS IS THE QUEER PLANET OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Corina (Satellite of Love: Queer Horoscopes for May 2018) says:

“There is no planet of being gay, just like there’s no planet linked to heterosexuality, but there is a planet of queerness! Uranus, also the planet of revolutions and inventions, correlates to the part of each of us that needs to go against the grain of social norms. Uranus helps us live more defiantly, more bravely — and with an awareness of how we’re intertwined with everyone else, and how getting more free personally is linked to collective freedom. Strongly Uranian people are at the forefront of all liberation movements and utopian social experiments.”

Corina offers more on Uranus in Taurus as he arrives for the long stay in Taurus, March 2019:

“If Uranus is the tech-savvy queer who writes speculative fiction about a world of cyborgs with endlessly multiplying genders, Taurus is the Goddess-worshipping lesbian who lives in a yurt and gathers wild herbs. Uranus and Taurus are unlikely companions. With Uranus in Taurus, we’re seeing an electrifying change jolting through the parts of our psyches that prefer a slow and easy pace. This can feel jarring, especially at first, but it can also bring unexpected kinds of growth and healing. One thing that is true about Uranus is that it transforms whatever it touches, like a bolt of lightning. Uranus in Taurus will be a time when our relationship to security, our bodies, and the earth will undergo unexpected transformations.”  https://www.autostraddle.com/queer-horoscopes-for-march-2019-considering-wild-new-possibilities/

URANUS IS THE RULER OF AQUARIUS

This planet and sign represent the queer energies of the cosmos we inhabit:

Uranus is unique as the only planet in our solar system that rotates on its horizontal axis. He literally rolls through the universe, and at an amazing speed – for while the planet is 47 times the size of the earth, a day lasts only 10 earth hours. Mythologically, Uranus was the original male principle, the Sky God, who was castrated by his son Chronos (Saturn), after which his sexual energies were channelled into the creation of art and beauty. The first Uranian moons that were discovered were named after the faeries of Midsummer Nights Dream – Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, Miranda, and Puck.

The mythology of Aquarius is the story of Zeus, king of the gods, falling for shepherd boy Ganymede, transforming himself into an eagle to swoop down and whisk the boy to the heavens where he became cup-bearer to the gods. When the goddess Hera became jealous Ganymede was forced to move on, but Zeus placed him in the sky forever as the water bearer constellation Aquarius. Planet Earth is currently on the zodiacal cusp transitioning from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. The rise of human rights, gender equality, gay liberation, digital technology are all signs of this shift occurring. By tracing the passage of Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius, through the zodiac over the last century we can detect how the r-evolutionary Uranian energy is influencing the progress of lgbtq rights.

aquarius-zodiac-500x666

Some astrologers have been pointing out, usually with a frown, that the last time Uranus was traversing Taurus was 1934-1942, which saw the outbreak of horrific worldwide war. But as the energy of Uranus is anti-authoritarian I like to observe that this period saw the rise of resistance to fascism, leading to its downfall a few years later.

The first group campaigning for gay rights, the Mattachine Society, was formed in the USA in1950. Uranus had just began its journey through the sign of the Divine Mother energy, Cancer. This was the moment, I suggest, when some significant number of the gay people of the world started to listen to her call to us to come home to ourselves, to reclaim our place on the planet after so many centuries of it being denied us.

The practical work of legislation relating to gay rights happened in the UK in the 1960s, leading to the Sexual Offences Act of 1967, while Uranus was in Virgo.

The spark moment for gay rights, however, came with the Stonewall Riots, June 28- July 1st, 1969. Uranus had just completed its journey through Virgo four days earlier and was settling into its long stay in Libra, the sign of balance and justice. The rise of gay rights is part of the drive towards balancing the overbearing patriarchal energies of the modern world. The revolutionary Uranian energy burst forth, anger manifesting. The conciliatory, assimilationist, approach of the Mattachine Society was not producing results, but from 1969 onwards gay visibility, activism and pride spread through the western world.

During the incubation years of the HIV virus spreading quietly among gay men, the late 70s, Uranus was in Scorpio, with the first case later recognised as AIDS coming in 1980. While Uranus was in Sagittarius (1981-88) the search for ways to treat HIV was underway, as was the rise of a politicised and self-conscious queer community. Those of us coming out in the 1980s entered a gay scene in which a sense of community, of the need to work together for our very survival, was strong. This community sense was catalysed through adversity – AIDS deaths and political apathy or outright hostility. The Conservative government’s introduction of Clause 28 in 1988, outlawing the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in education, galvanised us in the UK further. Gay Pride events swelled in numbers and determination. While Uranus was traversing Capricorn (1988-1996) many efforts were made to raise our game, and once our queer planet settled for the long haul through its home sign Aquarius in 1996, things really began to speed up for lgbtq visibility, rights and acceptance.
uranus in aq

Croatian astrologer Branko Zivotin says: “The entry of Uranus in the sign of Aquarius led to an increase in the same sex love and bisexuality among young people. Uranus impact gave full force with a strong radical changes because Uranus is the ruling planet of Aquarius. In 1996 Uranus entered Aquarius and than started an active story about gay population, as something completely normal. Uranus cycle of seven years brought turnarounds among young people to find sexual partners more freely and easily through electronics, the Internet, at parties, to organize gay parties.”

Zivotin also points out that Neptune’s presence in Aquarius from 1998-2011 brought a powerful escapist energy into the picture, indicating a vast expansion of alcohol and drug use, which certainly happened for the gay scene at that time. In fact for gay men, during that period sex became more thoroughly associated with heavy drug use, with associated casualties lost to addiction or overdose. Neptune moved into its home sign Pisces in 2011, which energy is related to both intoxication and spirituality, and is traversing there until 1925. Drug use among gay men is not abating, despite the horror stories of dependency, delirium and death we’ve been hearing for some years now. The message of Neptune in Pisces for gay men is that spirituality is the solution to addiction, and that in fact spirituality can lead us to all the heights and blissful experiences we seek through drug use. Spirituality is about opening the doors to bliss, and keeping them open – while drugs just give us a temporary, ultimately destructive, experience.

In the UK, an equal age of consent was finally enacted in 2001, while Uranus was still in Aquarius. Wikipedia reports that in the USA, “In four landmark rulings between the years 1996 and 2015, the Supreme Court invalidated a state law banning protected class recognition based upon homosexuality, struck down sodomy laws nationwide, struck down Section of the Defense of Marriage Act, and made same-sex marriage legal nationwide.”  The moves to recognise same sex relationships, through civil partnerships and marriage, spread around the world while Uranus was in the emotional, universal, compassionate energy of Pisces 2003-2010.

During the period of Uranus in Aries 2010 – 2018 we saw the Arab Spring, Occupy, and the growth of the women’s movement and blacklivesmatter, and also the huge disparity in rights and conditions for LGBTQ people around the world has come very much into focus, forcing some of us queers to think more deeply about who we are and what is really going on.  The answers are still emerging. In the UK these years have seen a rapid expansion of Radical Faerie activity – it might be said, in response to those who lament the loss of community spirit on the commercial gay scene, that it is amongst the Rad Fae that the possibilities of queer community are currently being explored, and from a positive angle of discovering the magic of who we are, not the defensive energy that catalysed queer community in the 1980s. Radical Faeries remove the capitalist element from the community equation, offering the potential to create real, lasting bonds built on connections made in the heart, made in nature, and made in relationship to a still largely unknown spiritual history of queer people as the magical folk, the shamans, priestesses and healers of the ancient pagan religions. Uranus in Aries also saw the birth of QUEER SPIRIT FESTIVAL, a 5 day event bringing together a few hundred spiritually inclined queers from the whole LGBTQ spectrum, in a space where we dared to declare not only our love for each other but also our deep love for the planet, for nature, for humanity, and prepare ourselves to emerge as the Healing Tribe within the human race.

As Uranus moves now into the second sign of this new traversal of the zodiac, the energy is coming to bring the mystical awareness of who we are home to the body, home to the planet: Queers as planetary healers, soul doctors, channels of spirit (and also midwives to those leaving the body).

The Uranian revelation waiting to hit the world is that the religious hatred of homo- and trans-sexuality has its roots in the time when first Judaism, then later Christianity, were putting their efforts into eradicating the sex-positive, ecstatic earth-loving, goddess honouring religions of the ancient world. The Old Testament tells of the presence, and destruction, of the Qedesha – the male prostitutes who worked in the goddess temples: the name means ‘The Anointed’ or ‘The Holy Ones’ but was translated in the St James Bible into English as simply ‘sodomites’. A principal rival to Christianity in its first centuries was the worship of Cybele, known in Rome as the Magna Mater (Great Mother), but whose worship goes back at least 1000 years BC in Turkey. She was served by female and trans priests, who were known as the Gallae. They travelled the land conducting ecstatic rituals, and were a prime target of Christian vitriol. After the Roman Empire officially adopted Christianity as its religion, huge efforts were made to wipe out all traces and memory of Cybele worship.

In ancient texts, sodomy is often listed alongside other taboo practices such as divination and astrology because same sex activity was associated with magical practices of the goddess religions that the new domineering energies of patriarchy sought to suppress. Those practices included communal danced rituals where people ‘lost their minds’, became filled with the ecstatic spirit of the gods and so had direct experience of themselves as part of an interconnected multiverse of many layers. The suppression of the feminine impulse, of the homo-erotic impulse and of ecstatic, communal celebration all went hand in hand. It took until the rise of Protestantism in the 1500s and the Calvinist/Puritan fundamentalism of the 1600s for these powerful forces to be brought fully under patriarchal control. Instead of engaging in direct ecstatic connection with the spirit world, people were now supposed to simply ‘have faith’ and bow to the wisdom of the priestly class.  From that time on, European explorers, finding sodomy, cross-dressing, unrestricted gender roles, communal ecstatic rituals and same sex-loving magical workers on every other continent of the world, set out to spread their anti-joy, anti-love, anti-freedom views far and wide.

uranus rings

The planet Uranus was discovered in 1781, a time of revolution and upheaval. Although we think of this as the peak of the period known as the Western Enlightenment, when rational thought became dominant, this was the time of the birth of the Romantic period in culture, when celebration of nature, art, beauty and imagination came forward in a reaction against the rational drive. Romanticism included a mistrust of organised religions, and a longing for the Arcadian days when Pan the Horned God ran free in the forests and the Great Mother was honoured, so we might claim it as a Uranian manifestation.

Certainly the discovery of Uranus must have been in the mind of 19th century homosexual pioneers Edward Carpenter of the UK and Karl Ulrichs of Germany. They both inclined to use the word URANIAN to describe same sex-attracted individuals, relating the name to the goddess Aphrodite Urania, the patron of spiritual, same-sex love. These early pioneers saw great possibilities in the emancipation of the homosexual and transsexual spirit. Carpenter’s works include 1908’s ‘The Intermediate Sex’ in which he says, “The Uranian people may be destined to form the advance guard of that great movement which will one day transform the common life by substituting the bond of personal affection and compassion for the monetary, legal and other external ties which now control and confine society”. In ‘Intermediate Types Among Primitive Folk’, 1911, he identifies roles that many cultures reserve for homo- or transsexual people: ‘the priest, medicine-man or shaman, the prophet and the diviner, the artist and craftsperson and the true scientist, successor to the tribal observer of the stars and seasons, medicine and the herbs’.

The only African tribe to have kept its ancient wisdom about the role of gay and trans people is the Dagara Tribe of Burkino Faso. Malidoma and Sobonfu Some were two teachers that the tribe sent to the west – and both shared the message that gay men are gatekeepers (and lesbians witches), with a specific role that involves energy points on the physical planet. By cutting gay people off from this knowledge and defining us merely by our sexual expression, the patriarchal culture has effectively castrated us from our power, and our purpose, which is to serve the Great Mother, manifest as the planet and as the animals, plants and people on it.

Astrologer Sarah Varcas points out that Uranus’ arrival in the first earth sign of the zodiac will remind us that the earth is a living goddess, our Great Mother, who is likely to push back like never before as humans continue to abuse and destroy her. To attempt to fix our mistakes is not enough, it is the very way that we think as a species that needs to evolve. She says that “By honoring an enduring commitment to caring for Our Mother and all her children of every form we dismantle, piece by piece, the patriarchal mind-set that equates aggression and domination with power, and love, compassion and generosity with weakness.”

Queers are the children of Uranus, here to wake up to our power, remember our hidden history and claim our r-evolutionary part in human destiny. While Uranus is in Taurus, the sign of the Goddess Venus, we are going to get much more in touch with what we are capable of, what we are here to do, and who we really are.

THE ECSTATIC RITES OF SPRING

Equinox is the turning point – the inward pull of the Winter energies gives way to the growing, vital, impulse of the rising Spring. We can see in nature just how dramatic this shift is, and as humans we can learn from nature – to bring human minds, hearts and bodies in tune with the seasonal shift the ancient pagan religions used to make energetic, ecstatic Spring celebrations, which shook people out of the slumber of winter. Ecstasy was understood as a state of divine possession – where, through dance, intoxication, sex and even pain, celebrants got “out of their minds” to experience themselves as part of the Great Mystery, the dance of the gods and spirits.

Ecstatic wisdom is lacking in modern society. The benefits of transcendental journeys are appreciated by few, and rarely included in the discussion about and search for mental health and general well-being. But the simple thing is – if we humans don’t get to spend time ‘out of our heads’, we get stuck in them. Mental illness is the result. The need for transcendence is in-built in us, so many people end up seeking it unconsciously – even compulsively – leading so easily to drug, alcohol and sexual addictions, which result, I would say, because of a lack of a viable spiritual/mystical framework within which to hold the experience. Modern rational thought has released us from the chains of religion, but left us in freefall as individuals unaware of the intrinsic unity of life that is manifesting through us.

dionysus酒神酒雕象-象-71610263

In ancient Greece and Rome the first weeks of Spring saw the wild and ecstatic rituals of Dionysus/Bacchus and of the Great Mother Cybele and her consort Attis. Much of what we know about these rituals comes from outraged and disturbed Apollonian Greeks (who sought to bring order in the universe above all things) and appalled early Christian writers (who saw the body and sex as sinful). Both Dionysus and Attis are gender-fluid, queer characters, whose worship was serious competition to Christianity until around the 4th century CE. Dionysus and Attis, like Jesus, were ‘divine children’ born of the union of a deity and a human. Both have death and resurrection stories as part of their mythology, both were seen as ‘saviours’.

At the turn of the first millennium death, resurrection and salvation were the big theme in religious circles. A process was underway in which the secret sacraments of the Mystery Schools were becoming ‘solidified’ in religious form – and increasingly taken literally, seen as something happening externally, instead of understood as mystical symbolism teaching about the pathway of the soul through incarnation. One of the oldest Mystery Schools was that of Cybele, the Great Mother, that had a long and respected history in the Turkish area of Phrygia in Anatolia. The Greeks equated Cybele with Rhea, the Mother of the King of the Gods, Zeus, and the Romans held her power in such awe that, when threatened with defeat in the Punic Wars against Hannibal of Carthage, they consulted ancient Cybelline oracles and followed their guidance to invite the Great Mother to become Rome’s official deity. A black meteor stone was brought from Phrygia to Rome with great fanfare and a temple inaugurated.

cybelerotate1

The arrival of Cybelline worship in Greece, around the 6th century BCE, and in Rome from 200 BCE, was controversial for some. Cybele’s worship centred on the story of her lover Attis, who castrated himself to avoid marriage to a human woman. (The castration botched, Attis died – violets sprang from his blood – the Goddess bathed his testicles in holy water, wrapped them in his clothes and buried them. In the most ancient legends he was reborn as her daughter. In Christian times his followers depicted him as a Christ-like god surrounded by stars in heaven). The wild and effeminate looks and behaviours, the brazen sexuality and wild rituals of the wandering Gallae priests of Cybele were shocking to many. Their Spring rituals involved frenzied dancing, flagellation and self-mutilation in order to achieve ecstatic states of union with their beloved deities, Cybele and Attis. To be like Attis, and become closer to Cybele, at the peak of the wild Spring rituals, on the Day of Blood (March 24th), initiates, while in a frenzied state, would castrate themselves. They would then run through the city and throw the testes at random into somebody’s house – that person then became responsible for taking care of the new priestess. This continues a tradition, by that time many thousands of years old, in which transgender priests were seen as the holy servants of the Goddess. These priests are mentioned in the Old Testament – named the Qedesha, this word was translated in the King James Bible as ‘sodomites’ (removing all link to the sacred), and in modern Bibles is usually put as ‘male shrine prostitutes’ – but the original meaning was actually ‘The Anointed Ones’, or ‘The Holy Ones’. Jesus speaks of eunuchs in the Gospel of Matthew, saying that some are born that way, some are made so by others, but others choose to be so, ‘for the sake of the kingdom of heaven’. Jesus also points out that only some will understand this.

Bacchus-with-some-grapes-on-his-head2

Bacchanalian rituals celebrating the start of Spring were similarly wild and orgiastic. Dionysus to the Greeks and Bacchus to the Romans, the rituals of this young transgendered god were a highlight of the ancient year. Dionysus was the child of Zeus and a human woman, Semele. The Goddess Hera was so jealous of him that she had the Titans rip him apart. But Rhea (Cybele) brought him back to life. His rituals, held in the forests, were popular, but notorious for their effect on women, who would become sexually wild and abandoned under his influence. Through imbibing his precious gift to humanity, wine, people became possessed by the god and experienced his direct presence amongst them.

The Spring rituals were a time when order gave way to ecstasy and chaos for a while. The echoes today are the festivals of Purim in Judaism and Mardi Gras in Catholic countries, where cross-dressing features strongly. By embracing the ecstatic, people got some relief from the pressures and trials of regular life, received boosts from the deities to shake off the winter sluggishness and attune to the surging spirit of Spring.

In northern Europe, where the Spring is slower to take hold, the ecstatic peak of the year was (and for some of us IS) celebrated at Beltane, May 1st, with comparable rituals of raising energies through music, dance and sex. Fire is central to the Beltane rituals, burning away of the old and bringing heat and passion to engage the new season. The deities of Beltane are the Goddess and the Green Man, also the Horned God Cernunnos, a northern European version of Pan, another forest deity like Dionysus, also associated with free sexual expression of all kinds.

img-thing

A prime difference between the emerging new religion and the old pagan faiths was the attitude to the body and sexuality. The Christian church sought to limit, control, contain and suppress the sexual urge. The persecution of homosexual and transexual people and behaviours began as a direct part of the suppression of pagan practices. Anal sex between men, lascivious wild women, orgiastic rituals were all seen as threats to the emerging order of patriarchal control. Spring rituals had to go, as part of the destruction of even the memory of the holiness to be found through same sex eroticism and gender-fluidity.

The principle rivals to the emerging Christ figure were holy queer beings – Dionysus, god of wine and ecstasy, and Attis, gender shifting son/daughter (and lover) of the primordial Goddess. But of course the Christ story is queer also – he was accompanied by a circle of male disciples, one of whom is singled out in the Gospel of John as the ‘disciple whom Jesus loved’, he was taught about love and ecstasy by the sacred sexworker Mary Magdalene, and Mark tells us that in the Garden of Gethsemane he was met by a partially dressed young man carrying water (the symbol of Aquarius, in a culture where women did that work) who fled, losing his cloth, once the guards came. But this queerness is denied and still largely unclaimed even by gay Christians.

Of course the Jesus story is queer. The very roots of religion come from a long tradition of genderfluidity and knowledge of the self through same sex love, whether expressed sexually or not. The suppression of the feminine, the ecstatic and the queer have all gone hand in hand in a patriarchal drive to control and bring order to life’s chaotic energies.

Love-One-Another-Jesus

The overall culture will take a long time to shift, but in the 21st century shift is happening. Individually we can make the internal changes we need to bring ourselves into alignment with the cycles and transitions of nature and the cosmos by letting go of all belief in our isolation, by entering into a relationship with the spirit that flow through us and all things and escaping the solitude of the mind-bound egoic sense of self.

Giving ourselves some ecstatic release helps to shift the body and mind into the new season and to new levels of understanding. Dancing, sex, even intoxicants can help. Every trip into ecstasy is an invitation to transformation. Taken with awareness, those trips can helpfully accelerate our evolution, our journey to self knowledge and discovery.

TRANS EMERGENCE

TRANS EMERGENCE IS SOUL EMERGENCE

In recent times….

Technologically humanity has advanced, but

Spiritually we are still in the backwaters…

Mistranslated ancient texts are used to dominate and abuse

Opinionated bigots hinder the advance of human understanding

Yet a new light, that is also an ancient light is dawning

The emergence of Trans identity is the Awakening in progress

.

Beyond race, beyond faith, beyond gender – we are all SOULS

– individual manifestations of collective divine potential –

.

The Soul contains all potential

It incarnates sometimes in feminine energy, sometimes in masculine

Some souls incarnate with a combination of female and male spirit

Some even with neither, the ultimate non-binary is pure divinity

The Kabbalistic Tree of Life has three pillars

Souls on the left or right pillars are exploring manifestation through gender

Souls on the middle pillar are exploring pure awareness.

.

Humanity is ready to become One

conscious of the unity of Source that gives rise to us all

the Source that is Mother and Father and Lover to all of Creation

.

Souls are on a journey through eternity

That began with what religion calls ‘the fall’

In the illusion of separation from Source

We are free to be Who We Want To Be

Unless others try to stop us

.

A person’s inner gender can be different to their physical manifestation

When someone says ‘born in the wrong body’ it implies they existed before the body

We did. We are souls on a very long journey

.

Technologically humanity has come a long way

Emotionally and spiritually we are still learning

The Soul is ready to awaken and reveal its splendour

Trans people are nothing new

The heyday of same sex love and genderfluidity in religious practice lasted from the end of the Ice Age until the 4th century AD. Around 10,000 years

Ever since then male dominated religions have worked very hard to eradicate all trace of any connection between trans and homosexual people and Spirit

But we are the people of Spirit, we hear and heed the call from within to be true to Who We Are –

the time of our re-EMERGENCE has come….

jesus trans

Jesus said to them, “When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female… then you will enter the Kingdom” Gnostic Gospel of St Thomas

I’ve written this post today because I came across vile opinions of ‘Christians’ on line in regards to the emergence of Trans people. For example, this blog piece focusses on Baphomet, genderqueer deity that has been around at least since the Middle Ages, saying..

“It has been leaked from the within the elite that sodomy rituals are a common practice as are other “sex magic” rituals where demonic entities are petitioned for power and possession.  This link is crucial to the persistent homosexual agenda as the elite seek to make clear cut gender roles obsolete.  This is also at the root of feminism as the goal of feminism works in cooperation with the homosexual community to “liberate” society from traditional gender roles.Baphomet worship has become pervasive throughout media as the elite understand that the more they eat away at the very fabric of the traditional family the more likely they are to succeed in overthrowing absolutes in morality.  Baphomet is the ultimate gray area that challenges Biblical values and seeks to render them archaic and irrelevant.  It is within your best interest to recognize this subversive behavior as it is this very climate that is sucking children into a vacuum of sexual perversion and confusion via media indoctrination.  There is a serious problem with a little boy wanting to dress up like a princess or worse, who believes that he should’ve actually been born a girl and vice versa there is something troublesome about a little girl who believes that she should’ve actually been male and not female as if God made a mistake.  Media subliminal usage is prolific in regard to this and should not be underestimated as a pervasive and profound influence.”

MASCULINITY AND FEMININITY ARE NAMES GIVEN TO THE CREATIVE ENERGIES OF THE UNIVERSE. WE ARE ALL A DANCE OF THESE ENERGIES, WHICH HAVE OTHER NAMES TOO – such as yin/yang, active/passive, direction/radiance.

TRANS EMERGENCE IS THE SOUL INSIDE COMING OUT, TRANSCENDENT AND TRANSFORMED

FOR THE WORLD HAS CHANGED

AND HUMANITY NEEDS TO DROP THE OLD GAMES OF DIVISION AND EXPLOITATION AND GREED, and change too

TO FIND A NEW GAME TO PLAY….

TRANS EMERGENCE IS SOUL EMERGENCE

The Age of  Aquarius –

of A-queerer-us

– has begun.

The So(u)lar System

Life becomes a flow of creativity and discovery when we dance in time with the so(u)lar system

21st century planet earth

Life’s got intense

We’re trying to give birth

To a new paradigm

A new way of seeing

Our place in the Cosmos.

We need an anchor to hold us steady

We need the wisdom that gets us ready

For vibrational shift

For the Great Awakening

When everything we know will change.

.

The Earth is the anchor we need

Her seasons and cycles are the way she leads

us to the fulfilment of the human journey

The Planets are the guides on the way to wisdom

For the solar system is the map

of the Soul System which we each manifest.

The end of delusions, no more separation

this is the ultimate revelation –

We are the eyes, the ears, the words of Creation

And every living thing is holy.

.

Spirits born to reach for our destiny

Know that I am another you and you another me.

We are all part of the one great Being

and the world is created through our beliefs

so stop believing in death, in sin

because divinity and unity is found within

drop the attachment to separation and suffering

the Self inside emerges

when we fear no more and let love be the lore.

The Sun gives life to the solar system, we are that life at the stage of self-questioning and seeking knowledge… and the answers we need are right inside us… the solar system is the SOUL system

The planets of the Solar System travel through the 12 signs of the zodiac,

revealing through their placement in each individual chart:

  • Sun: Why do I act and express myself the way I do
  • Moon: Why do I react and feel the way I do
  • Ascendent: Why do I see and meet the world the way I do
  • Mercury: Why do I think and communicate the way I do
  • Venus: Why do I express affection the way I do
  • Mars: Why do I express anger and passion the way I do
  • Jupiter: Where do I feel most confident and where do I push my luck
  • Saturn: Where do I feel most anxious and where do I need to realize authority
  • Uranus: Where do I rebel and innovate
  • Neptune: Where do I lose touch with reality and how do I escape it
  • Pluto: Where do I feel most powerless and how do I need to let go of ego to transform

Far from being a distant, simply physical thing, the sun gives us life and also effectively shines back at itself from within us, the sun is the alchemical symbol for the Self. Like the sun we shine our individual nature on the world. The moon is the sunlight reflected and represents our inner world of dreams, visions and emotions. The planets reflect key archetypal energies in our collective matrix of consciousness….in very simple terms, Mercury is the Messenger, he rules the mind, Venus is the Goddess of Love and rules the heart, Mars is the warrior energy, Jupiter the benevolent father, Saturn the teacher, Uranus the revolutionary, Neptune the Mystic and Pluto Dark Lord of the Subconscious. We can add to this list at least two smaller but significant bodies in the solar system: Chiron, the Wounded Healer and Ceres, the Great Mother, whose influence and effects are still being discovered.

solar system

The planets journey through the 12 signs of the zodiac, which divide into four elemental categories and three modalities – each element has one cardinal, one fixed and one mutable manifestation

Fire signs:  Aries cardinal, Leo fixed, Sagittarius mutable

Earth signs:  Capricorn cardinal, Taurus fixed, Virgo mutable

Air signs:  Libra cardinal, Aquarius fixed, Gemini mutable

Water signs:  Cancer cardinal, Scorpio fixed, Pisces mutable

The journey of the zodiac year from Aries to Pisces takes us on a wisdom journey into the human soul.  Each month the cosmos is putting one aspect of who we are centre stage through the Sun’s position.

The first four signs of the zodiac bring focus to our individuality:  Aries: I AM.   Taurus: I HAVE   Gemini: I THINK    Cancer:  I FEEL

The second four signs of the zodiac are about our relationships with others:  Leo:  I WILL   Virgo: I ANALYSE   Libra:  I BALANCE   Scorpio:  I DESIRE

The final four signs of the zodiac bring energy to our connection with community, society and spirit: Sagittarius:  I AIM    Capricorn: I USE   Aquarius:  I KNOW   Pisces:  I BELIEVE

Consider this:  for centuries religious authorities in the west forbad the practice of astrology, not because it is invalid but because they did not want the populace to have access to the eternal wisdom of the cosmos.  The modern scientific paradigm insists there is no truth in astrology, but the souls inside so many humans instinctively know this is wrong.  Astrology is booming on the World Wide Web because it gives us insight into the subtle archetypal energies of the human spirit, which is not disconnected from the rest of creation – it is intrinsically and eternally part of it.  As Above, So Below said the ancients.  ‘Know thyself’ was the maxim.  The stars, planets, the sun and moon are all in the sky reflecting back to us who we are, showing us the Way.

“It will be a marvellous thing – the true personality of man – when we see it. It will grow naturally and simply, flowerlike, or as a tree grows. It will not be at discord. It will never argue or dispute. It will not prove things. It will know everything. And yet it will not busy itself about knowledge. It will have wisdom. Its value will not be measured by material things….. “‘Know thyself’ was written over the portal of the antique world. Over the portal of the new world, ‘Be thyself’ shall be written.” FROM THE SOUL OF SOCIALISM by Oscar Wilde

A TRIBE OF HEARTS

Radical Faeries gather around the world, creating zones of heart based communication, where we can retune our bodies, minds and spirits to the rhythms of nature, where we support, nourish and love each other, and find healing, purpose and inspiration. We are groups of Queers discovering the spiritual power hidden in sexuality, and learning to live in a new paradigm of co-operation, creativity, expansive love, consensus and Oneness.

Embracing subject:SUBJECT consciousness we overcome the hurdles within ourselves that prevent us meeting each other with love. We practice active listening in our heart circles, listening without judgement or reaction, growing in compassion and presence as we do so. This heart presence then inspires all our other activities, from cooking and washing up, to transformational workshops and ceremonies, to dancing and lovemaking. We honour the holiness of sexuality in our Love Temples and the healing touch of nature’s spirits, ancestor souls and queer deities, gradually shifting our understanding of life from the divide-and-conquer, materialist paradigm towards the full embrace of the divine dance of consciousness, co-created, expressed and shared through love, light and laughter.

Joy is the gift of spirit that we receive and develop in ourselves and that we bring to the wider world. Joy is a powerful vibration similar to love, but a more constant one – unlike love it has no shadow side. Joy is simply joy, coming from the soul and enjoyed in the body, heart and mind, it is the vibration of who we are as living spirit, fearless and adventurous, expressive and accepting, knowing and trusting, vulnerable yet strong, loving and praying. It’s what arises in us once we get the falsehoods of the ego, the fears and judgements etc of the mind, out of the way, and let who we really are shine through.

The faerie drums call out to all who are ready to hear and feel – the times are changing and queers have an important role to play in this change. For centuries our queer light and power has been denied and repressed, but in a few decades our presence in the world has undergone an incredible, mind-blowing shift. Our journey to sexual, social and political liberation has advanced in some parts of the world, and our next journey – of spiritual discovery (or re-discovery of who we have always been) and mystical emergence, which has been getting underway for some decades already in faerie groves and tantric playgrounds (mostly hidden from or ignored by mainstream gay life) is reaching a new level. What we go through, in this rapid journey from darkness to light, is forming a template for humanity as whole. Because of our long standing exclusion from the rituals of the rest of society, the hunger in some of us for tribe, for liberation, is very strong, and is fuelling our growth. We are fulfilling our archetypal role as scouts of consciousness, and if we can consolidate, strengthen and develop our tribe of hearts we will be a beacon for the rest of the lgbtiq+ cosmos and the whole world.

Rad Fae communities are one of the key places that we Queers are exploring new ways of relating and communicating. We are circles of people exploring what it can be to live in the presence of love, with trust, respect and in safety, in the sacred connection of souls having a multi-dimensional experience. We are emerging as a global force, a tribe of hearts.

People come to faeries from all kinds of backgrounds and spiritual/religious experience. We are a melting pot of ideas, vibrations and potential. Whether we have spiritual beliefs/practices or not, in faerie community we can get a direct experience of love-in-action, of heightened frequencies, of deep intimacy (with each other and all creation (on a good day)), of life as a cosmic dance. In mystical language, it could be said we open the gates to the goddess – to the shakti presence in us and all creation – which the queer interplay of gender energies within us enable us to attune to and be aware of. This shakti presence uplifts, transforms and changes the game of life. Queers work and play with this magic all the time, in faerie space we get to turn the volume UP.

This is why it works – in the realm of the Goddess there is no search for enlightenment, only the experience that it is already there, connecting us, feeding us, enabling us, blessing us, encouraging us. When we are feeling free, bright and joyful we do not seek anything, we are experiencing ourselves in our natural state. The search for answers, the need to address our issues, the fear of the future, disappear and we live as love. Once open, this shakti gate just keeps on giving, and when our issues and fears resurface we will find new ways to address them. Faerie gatherings are held within sacred circles, where the unconditional love of the divine channelled through the elements that give us life meets our aspirational heart energies to reveal the way to healing, magic and splendour.

At some point we might find the abundance of emotion and experience overflows and overwhelms us. Then we may feel inclined to run away from faeries, and perhaps need to for a while – but where else in the world will we find such a pioneering, queer, eccentric and ecstatic tribe of playful, sexy, warrior souls? Faerie space is not perfect – it’s not designed to be a utopia escaping reality – it’s a transformational playground pointing the way to better quality of life experience, the like of which has never existed on planet earth before. The ride will not always be smooth, but there is no ride quite like it. For queers seeking deeper connection, both internally and externally, greater intimacy and meaning in life, Faerie space is providing a glimpse into what might be possible.

We don’t have to ‘become’ a faerie – to take on another label in any fierce or dogmatic fashion. In fact to do so would be so un-faerie. Faerie gives us the chance to embrace ultimate flexibility/fluidity, shapeshifters that we are – here is a space where queers who are called to explore the magical, mystical power within the human soul can gather with others and have the necessary, frequently ecstatic, fun to release it. Call it what we like, here we are scouts of consciousness taking and tackling the ‘essentialist’ route towards fulfilment of our queerness (ie exploring what makes us unique in the human panoply), as opposed to the ‘assimilationist’ path of the mainstream gay culture. We get to discover that we are witches, shamans, fools, that we are healers, artists and agents of transformation. For queers who already feel this or know this in themselves, and for all queers who have this in them, faerie space is a true homecoming – but not the end of the journey, it is in face a beginning.

***

Some humans are born with a sense of the numinous, the worlds beyond the physical, already built into their awareness, but many of us experience some kind of ‘revelation’ moment when the bigger picture of the creation opens up for us. This is often called an Awakening, and can come to us through all sorts of situations, both pleasant and unpleasant. It might be that we are ‘programmed’ to wake up to more levels of existence as we get older and ready to deal with what they bring to us. As the mainstream culture of our times does not recognise this process it is very common for the symptoms of awakening to be misunderstood and medicated away. It is possible that a lot of mental illness is due to this fundamental denial in the culture of our evolving, emerging, soul natures. Life conspires to bring us direct experiences of that nature, then leaving it in our hands as to when and how we adapt our lives to harmonise with it. If we are resistant we are to doing that, life will continue to try to push us into it, quite possibly through crises, illnesses etc.

Once we have seen the light, we need to find our own way to walk in it. Every part of us that is in darkness, in shadow, will be illuminated. The path of light, of conscious growth, means facing, embracing and healing the shadow in ourselves, and ultimately in all things.  It helps to remember we are on a path of healing – and not fall back into believing in pathological labels given to us by the materialist paradigm when things get tough.  Taking the time to focus and mark the seasonal shifts (equinoxes, solstices etc) and moon cycles can keep us on track, keep the deeper purpose high in our minds.  This can have very powerful effects, hastening our healing and evolution, when shared with others.

The religious paths of the Father, with their written treatises, rules and disciplines of yoga, meditation etc – and their promises of enlightenment and salvation (usually considered out of reach, at least in this lifetime) can provide us with vital tools to ground and centre ourselves in the changeable and challenging moments in community and in life in general.

The paths of the Mother Goddess are found in the cycles and rhythms and beings of nature, of the sun and moon, the planets and stars.  They stem from the fact that all this Creation around us is ONE DANCE constantly in a state of communion and communication. The power of the heavenly bodies and nature’s cycles is often revealed to us through direct experience of faerie ritual and community living. Through observing, honouring and studying the seasonal shifts, the moon cycles etc we discover that the shakti presence and wisdom is always there on offer to us, to help us open our minds and heal our souls. The ‘brainwashing’ we received from the rationalist, materialist school of thought that likely dominated our education makes many of us resistant to embrace the intuitive arts of astrology, tarot, kabbalah, shamanism etc, but these arts, that require the interplay of our left and right brains in order to be mastered, hold the keys to our souls. Whether we are actively ‘spiritual’ in a conventional sense or not, they can reveal the dance of spirit in matter, remind us that we are in fact That, release us from the cage of separation and existential angst that science may have dropped us in, however well meaning it’s efforts, and reveal to us just how magical, marvellous and divine our existence, both individually and collectively as a tribe of hearts, truly is.

AIDS SHAMAN

http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/shokti

Presenting my first book to the world… available now as ebook, print version coming…  my awakening to the spiritual realms began while sick with AIDS in the 1990s… Here is a collection of my poetry and prose to make you think about the role gay/queer people play in the human story, plus inspiration from queer ancestors, prophets and teachers.

Preview glimpse into the contents…..

HIV was the catalyst that led to my interest in spirituality: the threat of death led me to search for meaning in life. Given a positive diagnosis in 1990, by ’95 I was becoming symptomatic and was considered a PWA (Person With AIDS). I left my job, got my debts written off by telling the bank I was leaving the world, and turned my mind to the big question – why, I asked for the first time in my life, did I exist in the first place? I had held a firmly rational, materialist, atheistic view since the age of 12, but now, at 30, an understandably urgent need for spiritual answers arose in me. I plunged into a study of the worlds’ religions, into pagan magic and new age teachings, soon sensing a mystical core common to all. I began to open my mind and heart to the possibility of something more, to the possibility of a purpose behind our apparently random existence here on planet earth, to the idea of a beneficent divine presence giving rise to that existence.

All life’s crises hold an opportunity

nothing is ever only dark or light

HIV can awaken our spiritual sight.

Gays don’t like religion, thank goddess for that

we prefer to think for ourselves

and that’s where it’s at

we come out because we touch the truth inside

and that’s where we find our love and our pride

if we learn to listen to the soul, as we did as a child

all the answers we seek are there….

Calling to the Witch in every Queer

It’s time for the QUEER PEOPLES OF PLANET EARTH TO COME HOME

,,,and the time must come
after all the parties

after the dying years
and a decade of decadence
the time comes, can only come
when the gay phoenix rises

awakening everywhere…..

We’ve been hidden for so long in every race on earth

waiting for the globe to shrink so we can find each other

pathological said the shrinks

sinners said the church

we have to fight for equality

and in ourselves we have to search

for the answers to why we we’re here

for the secrets of being Queer.

This is the calling of the twenty first century queer: to learn to unite the sexual and the spiritual, and find the balancing, healing, role we play in the human family…. to remember, recover and renew our QUEER SPIRIT

The Scorpio Effect

Scorpio Month 2017 has extra added transformation power due to the presence of Jupiter in the sign of mysteries and passions since October 10th and the arrival of Venus there on November 7th. Mercury was also travelling through Scorpio from October 17th to November 5th and has now arrived for a long stay in fire sign Sagittarius, bringing an optimistic, curious and hope-seeking energy to our communications after a period where we were drawn to plumb and probe the depths of any situation.

Scorpio energy hates the superficialities of life – it seeks deep connection, hidden truths and passionate encounters. So Mercury in the sign had us turning over the soil to uncover buried issues and give them an airing, and now the fire spirit of Sagittarius will inspire us to look forwards again.

sun_scorpio-2-380x235

The Sun in Scorpio is taking us deeper into our experience of who we are, reminding us of forgotten or lost aspects of ourselves, taking us into connection with the eternal rhythms of life and the spirit worlds. Samhain is the festival of death and rebirth when each year we can consciously release past experiences, pains and problems in order to renew ourselves on the journey around the wheel of life. Now Venus joins the Sun and we will be seeking deep and meaningful connections with others – superficial relationships will give little pleasure, only depth and feeling bring satisfaction when Venus is in Scorpio, where she will be until December 1st.

venus in scorpio1

Jupiter has recently begun his 13 month sojourn in Scorpio, giving us a whole year of embracing and expanding our emotional experience, of identifying and pursuing our heart’s desires, of intimacy, sexuality, healing, purging. Jupiter last transited Scorpio October 2005-November 2006, and we could find that whatever we started at that time now has the chance to blossom and expand as it enjoys its Jupiter return.

jupiter in scorpio

Sometimes, with Scorpio energy, we create crises in order to attain the healing that will come from them. Scorpio will not let us stand still – growth and transformation (in order to get more out of life) is the agenda now. Scorpio is the stage on the astrological wheel where we are invited to let go of obsession with our individuality and start to experience ourselves as an integral part of the whole, as we die to the illusions of who-we-thought-we-were and step into the transpersonal final stages of the wheel of the year – the signs Sagittarius through Pisces.

Summer 2017 kept us busy, focussed on the here and now, growing, healing and shifting our vibrations to be ready for this autumnal period of renewal.  Scorpio energy is on high power this year and the path of transformation is in full swing, rest periods are short, and the next stages are soon ON. We are multi-dimensional beings remembering and redefining what life on earth is all about. There are times of doing, of external focus and manifestation – and there are times of being, of internal transformation and revelation. Scorpio opens the door to the mysteries of deep connection, of who we really are and what life is all about. We don’t have to open that door, we don’t have to walk through – but with so many universal archetypal energies swimming in the deep Scorpionic waters we might find, quite simply, that we want to.

Autumnal Attunement

rainbow_of_autumn_by_lani_heartcore

GROWTH IS A MANY LEVELLED THING

When we remember and honour the sacred seasonal turning points of the Wheel of the Year we attune ourselves to the rhythms of Eternity. As the number of people attuning grows, the Collective Consciousness is changed. Each turn of the Wheel we become more of OurSelves, we see that

We human beings are multi-faceted creatures

We have Physical form

We have Instincts and Desires

We have Will, Ego and Personality

And powerful Emotions, blissful to raw and extreme

through emotional trials we gain emotional strength

The Cosmos has given us the gift of Self-Awareness and Self-Expression

We have Spirit, Intuition, Creativity

that can unlock the Divine Core of our Nature

We have the potential to love unconditionally

forgive irresistibly

and hasten the day when the species wakes up

to its Unity and Interdependence with All Creation.

The Soul incarnates to have experiences that enable growth in all these levels of its being

Autumn 2017: Experiences are coming hard and fast for those on the crest of the wave of change. A key to the Aquarian Age, to making the leap to higher understanding, is to engage compassion and to learn to accept experiences on an impersonal level. The Collective Consciousness is doing what it needs to do to bring about the transformation of life on Earth. Some experiences suck, but so do we when we label them ‘wrong’ or when we condemn the people involved. We assist or resist the growth of love through every thought and action. People will hurt us, will make us angry, we will be tested and we will find dark places in ourselves we would rather were not there. But we can also detach from their power, because those places must be there, we have created those places over many lifetimes.

IN THIS LIFETIME WE CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING

The Autumn Season invites us to harvest the produce of the good seeds we have sown and to let go of anything on any level that restrains our personal and communal growth – like trees we can drop our dead leaves and create compost for our future glories. With bonfires we can burn away the debris of times past, and while doing so remember and be with loved ones who have passed and attune ourselves to the rhythms of eternity.

The Goddess and the Gay Tribes

God is an antagonistic concept for many Gay/Lesbian/Bi/Trans people, but at the same time many of us have a deep spiritual sensibility that deserves exploration.  We do not have to go knocking at the doors of the religious Father God figures to do this however, for closer to our souls is the unconditionally loving presence of the Mother Goddess, who is often seen literally or metaphorically as the planet itself, but who is also the holy spirit giving birth to the subtle planes of consciousness. She manifests through the fundamental forces underpinning our presence and experience here on the earth, ie the laws and principles of attraction, gender, expansion and contraction etc, and the elemental forces: earth, air, fire, water… the four basic states of being that apply to consciousness as much as to matter.

The elements manifest in us: earth is the body, air the mind, fire the spirit and water the emotional body, which surrounds and penetrates our physical form, and spreads much further than the body’s boundaries, as does the spirit’s fire body. When we are sharing space with others our emotional and spiritual bodies come into contact, as of course can our physical being and our minds – with mind and body we have more control over whether to connect or not – the emotional and spiritual are generally beyond the control of the will, until we take steps to develop emotional and spiritual strength and awareness, they connect us to the world around us whether we like it or not!

sri yantra rainbow

When we acknowledge and honour the connections between us the Mother’s presence is conjured, her love is free to flow and nourish us, enlighten, heal and uplift us. She is known in India as the Shakti, in Judaism as Shekhinah, the patriarchal Christians disguise her as the Holy Spirit. The patriarchal religions over the centuries put so much energy into attacking pagan religions that worshipped the Divine Feminine and into attacking same sex activity – because pagan faiths celebrated same sex love and practised it in their rituals.  Christianity was usurped by dominant heterosexual men from the Roman Empire onwards and used to justify the suppression of women and ‘deviants’ of any form, increasingly so as the centuries passed. Jesus presented a very gentle vision of love and forgiveness, but his name has been used to justify war, slaughter, slavery and intolerance of all kinds. The Reformation reduced the role of the divine feminine to even less importance than in the Roman Catholic church, which does give the Virgin Mother a prominent position – but the Virgin is only one aspect of the vast power of the Goddess, who was known in Europe for long centuries before Christianity as a trinity of Maiden, Mother and Crone, and who is still honoured in Hindu religion for such qualities as her powers of abundance (Lakshmi), education (Saraswati), and destruction (Kali). The Christian world reduced the role of the Mother, which changed our relationship with the planet itself, turning our world into a resource to be used rather than a sacred garden where god lives, through us and all life. The Source Creation Spirit may not interfere in the decisions we humans make, but every action we take is an action done to the Mother, and as physics tells us, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. As we drain our world of resources, destroy its delicate ecosystem, we are creating our own doom.  The shifting climate is driving this truth home.

What if gay people have some role to play in changing this?

sobonfu

Sobonfu Some of the Dagara Tribe of West Africa says in her book The Spirit of Intimacy that gay people perform gatekeeper roles, connecting humanity to the subtle planes, ie the spirit world, some of us having specific relationships with elemental portals. Our work with these portals (which we access through sexual magic) brings vital spirit energy to the whole tribe. But when we are cut off from the portals, and indeed from the knowledge that they exist, everything goes out of balance. She says that to define us by our sexuality is to seriously limit who we are, and prevent us discovering our true nature and calling. We are cut off from our work, we are not making our rituals, our power is turned inward and causes us to become prone to sickness and addictions, lost in the maelstrom of the world without an anchor to our power point on the physical planet.

Why do evangelical Christians have such an obsession with blaming Queers for earthquakes, hurricanes and any other natural disaster? Is it that they can sense a fundamental connection between us and the forces of nature, but in their blinkered vision they come out with such a twisted viewpoint?

21742906_10213621692794638_2459037783039260754_n

Already there are thousands of queers across the planet in Radical Faerie sanctuaries and other places remembering, discovering, exploring our connection to nature spirit, to the rhythms and cycles of the planet, to the flow of the divine feminine in creation, connecting – healing – uplifting us, and preparing us for the next steps, the incredible rediscovery and awakening of the gay wizards, witches, shamans, medicine people of all kinds.

Queers! We need to tune into nature. Cities are our playspaces, they are where we have found each other, in numbers, in strength, for the first time in human history over the past decades. We need our city spaces to find each other, but we need to get back to nature to find ourselves.

And to discover our natural powers.

A giant dance of Shiva tore the past;
There was a thunder as of worlds that fall;
Earth was o’errun with fire and the roar of Death
Clamouring to slay a world his hunger had made;
There was a clangour of Destruction’s wings:
The Titan’s battle-cry was in my ears,
Alarm and rumour shook the armoured Night…..

I saw the Omnipotent’s flaming pioneers
Over the heavenly verge which turns towards life
Come crowding down the amber stairs of birth;
Forerunners of a divine multitude,
Out of the paths of the morning star they came
Into the little room of mortal life.
I saw them cross the twilight of an age,

The sun-eyed children of a marvellous dawn,
The great creators with wide brows of calm,
The massive barrier-breakers of the world
And wrestlers with destiny in her lists of will,
The labourers in the quarries of the gods,
The messengers of the Incommunicable,
The architects of immortality.
Into the fallen human sphere they came,
Faces that wore the Immortal’s glory still,
Voices that communed still with the thoughts of God,
Bodies made beautiful by the spirit’s light,
Carrying the magic word, the mystic fire,

Carrying the Dionysian cup of joy,
Approaching eyes of a diviner man,
Lips chanting an unknown anthem of the soul,
Feet echoing in the corridors of Time.
High priests of wisdom, sweetness, might and bliss,
Discoverers of beauty’s sunlit ways
And swimmers of Love’s laughing fiery floods
And dancers within rapture’s golden doors,
Their tread one day shall change the suffering earth
And justify the light on Nature’s face.
– Aurobindo, C20 Indian Mystic

Hanging with Harry Hay

Harry Hay (1912-2002) Here are some quotations and photos to assist communion with the spirit of Harry, gay activist and founder of the 1950s Mattachine Society and one of the three founding motherfathers of the Radical Faeries…. Harry was born in Worthing, UK, and lived his life in the USA.

harry8

Give yourself permission to enjoy being gay. You do have to give yourself permission. You have been told you may not. Give yourself permission to be free.

Throw off the ugly green frogskin of hetero-imitation to find the shining Faerie prince beneath

harry1

When we begin to love and respect Great Mother Nature’s gift to us of gayness, we’ll discover that the bondage of our childhood and adolescence in the trials and tribulations of neitherness was actually an apprenticeship for teaching her children new cutting edges of consciousness and social change. In stunning paradox, our neitherness is our talisman, our fairie wand, our gift we bring to the hetero world to….transform their pain into healings; …transform their tears to laughter: …transform their hand-me-downs to visions of loveliness.

Our beautiful lovely sexuality is the gateway to spirit. Under all organised religions of the past, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, there has been a separation of carnality, or shall we say of flesh or earth or sex, and spirituality. As far as I am concerned they are all the same thing, and what we need to do as faeries is to tie it all back together again.

harry4

The term ‘spiritual’ represents the accumulation of all experiential consciousness from the division of the first cells in the primeval slime, down through all evolution, to your latest insights of subject-subject consciousness just a minute ago. What else can we call this overwhelmingly magnificent inheritance—other than spiritual?

harry9

I was an older brother. So I had to do a lot of things first. My father was a self-made man, and he would beat me senseless. But he was a Scotsman, and stubborn. I’m his son, and I’m stubborn, too. I go on being stubborn.

harry10

We know how to live through their eyes. We can always play their games, but are we denying ourselves by doing this? If you’re going to carry the skin of conformity over you, you are going to suppress the beautiful prince or princess within you.

harry12

Confronted with the loving-sharing Consensus of subject-SUBJECT relationships all Authoritarianism must vanish. The Fairy Family Circle, co-joined in the shared vision of non-possessive love – which is the granting to any other and all others that total space wherein each may grow and soar to his own freely-selected, full potential – reaching out to one another subject-to-SUBJECT, becomes for the first time in history the true working model of a Sharing Consensus!

Subject–SUBJECT consciousness, a concept proposed by Harry Hay, believed by Hay to be gay people’s unique perspective on the world. Hay saw heterosexual society existing in a subject–object dynamic; where men, who had the culturally acceptable power, saw only themselves as subject and therefore higher than women, who were treated as objects and property. Hay extrapolated this interpersonal-sexual dynamic (male-power:female-subordinate) into a broader social context, believing that the subject-object relationship was the driving force behind most all of societies ills. Objectificiation served as a barrier, emotionally separating an individual (subject) from another individual by dehumanizing them, making them object.

When Hay looked at same-sex relationships, however, he saw a different dynamic at work. He believed that homosexual relationships were based on mutual respect and empathy for the other: a longing for a companion who was as equally valuable as the self. Hay termed this interpersonal—sexual dynamic “subject—SUBJECT” (which Hay capitalized for emphasis in all of his writings). He believed that this subject–SUBJECT way of viewing the world was gay people’s most valuable contribution to the greater society. By empathizing with all people, relating to each other as equal-to-equal, society would change drastically and social injustices would be eradicated. (Wikipedia)

The Queer Spiritual Frontier

Queer Spirituality is the movement of lgbt+ people taking matters of faith into our own hands, making way for the discovery of the innate, magical flow of the divine gifts of the Soul. It is queer people finding our own ways to commune with and celebrate the Mystery behind all Creation, however we perceive that.

It is queers opening the doors to freedom of self-expression, learning how we mould our own reality and chart our own path in life through our beliefs and attitudes, opening the heart to unconditional love and compassion, celebrating the ecstatic in the erotic and the divinity to be found in nature, each other and all existence.

20992768_10213447270674194_4854429509938569145_n  I am Shokti, one of the organisers of Queer Spirit Festival – my motivation to create this space of exploration and celebration comes out of the awakening to the spiritual side of life while sick with AIDS in the mid 1990s. I was a smalltown boy, coming out of the sexual closet aged 21 in the mid 80s and racing to London to find the fun. I had no religious belief and no direction in life, but I was motivated from within to seek to love and be loved. Within a few years of coming out I was diagnosed HIV+ and preparing myself to die – this led me to open my mind to the big spiritual questions of life, and once the blinkers were off the light came flooding in. The deep love relationship I enjoyed at that time with a wonderful French man gave me the base from which to open my heart to life and to Spirit – and the strength to survive three years of full blown AIDS, returning to life with a new vision and understanding of a spiritual beauty, and power, in sexuality.

I now believe that Queer Spirituality is about the lgbt+ people of the planet becoming conscious of the Unity of all life: it’s not that we have ONE LIFE, it’s that there is ONE LIFE and we are it. We can use religious terms and imagery to describe this, but we can also find our own forms of expression. By being outside the mainstream norms of society queers are perfectly placed to work our own answers, this applies to spirituality as much as to our sexual expression, the relationships and cultures that we create. Life is a queer journey of constant discovery, most enjoyed when lived with passion. Everyone on earth is an incarnation of the oneness, and deserving of the right to self-expression, to be who they truly are and to love whom they wish to love. This is the message Queer Spirit brings to the world.

Spiritual liberation is the missing element in the modern journey of lgbt+ people around the world. Coming out about our sexuality or gender identity results from our need to be true to ourselves, we listen to our souls and from the soul comes the courage to be who we are. The same principle applies to spirituality – it comes from inside us. External forms of spirituality, i.e. religions, are cultural manifestations of collective spirituality, but they are also controlling, often repressive forces, set up to bring order and cohesion to society. The fact that certain religions have got so caught up in their dark fascination with hatred of our kind should tell us something – perhaps that we have some power, some magic, in our souls that they are very afraid of.

Most coverage of lgbt+ spiritual matters in the media focusses on the religious debates about us, and the efforts some valiant queers are making to improve matters within faith groups. But there is another story – that of questing queers pursuing their own personal growth/evolution/enlightenment – and of them occasionally gathering together to explore what queer community could become with a major dose of spiritual awareness injected into it. Queer Spirit Festival is such a gathering, the second one took place July 26-30, 2017 at a beautiful site in Wiltshire – here 400 queers from all parts of our rainbow tribe explored community, expanding our consciousness, sharing soul to soul, and rising in love. The festival seeks to highlight the passion and creative spirit of lgbt+ people, and be a space where we can explore embodied, heartfelt, playful queer spirituality free from religious constrictions.

Queer Spirit Festival brings together queers from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Radical Faeries (who have been holding magical and anarchic queer gatherings in the USA since 1979, in Europe since 1995 and UK since 2005), Queer Pagans, women’s groups that have been active since the 1980s, gay and bi yoga facilitators, healers, mindfulness meditation facilitation, shamanic practitioners, campaigns and a whole temple space honouring the spiritual power of sexuality, with a packed programme of workshops and parties. There will be performance, group ceremonies, plus all the features that make a festival – DJs, cafes, sauna, fire circles and much more.

The festival is part of the development of queers finding our own spiritual paths, our own mystical expression and how that can deepen community connection. For young people coming out in the second decade of the 21st century the Festival is making a statement that here are queers who are joyfully and creatively uniting their sexuality and spirituality, that spirituality does not have to be tied in with religion, and that it can also be a lot of FUN.

Mainstream lgbt+ culture occasionally debates religious issues but gives so little attention to the individual journey to self-awareness that so many of us are on. It also usually completely ignores its own prophets …. it is to these queer pioneers that we could be looking for a greater understanding of who we are and what we bring to the world.

Prophets such as:

Walt Whitman:”If anything is sacred, the human body is sacred.

Edward Carpenter: “When the individual self, reaching union with the universal, becomes consciously and willingly the creator and inspirer of the body – that is indeed a Transfiguration. The individual is no longer under the domination of the body and its heredity, but rising out of this tomb becomes lord and master of the body’s powers, and identified with the immortal Self of the world.”

Harry Hay: “Our beautiful lovely sexuality is the gateway to spirit. under all organised religions of the past, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, there has been a separation of carnality, or shall we say of flesh or earth or sex, and spirituality. As far as I am concerned they are all the same thing, and what we need to do as faeries is to tie it all back together again.

Allen Ginsberg: “Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy! Holy!
The world is holy! The soul is holy! The skin is holy!
The nose is holy! The tongue and cock and hand
and asshole holy!
Everything is holy! everybody’s holy! everywhere is
holy! everyday is in eternity! Everyman’s an angel!
The bum’s as holy as the seraphim! the madman is
holy as you my soul are holy!

Elsa Gidlow: “What if we smashed the mirrors
And saw our true face?
What if we left the Sacred Books to the worms
And found our True Mind?
What if we burned the wooden Buddhas?
Gave the stone Buddhas back to the mountains?
Dispersed the gurus with a great laugh
And discovered the path we had always been on?

Audre Lorde: “The sharing of joy, whether physical, emotional, psychic or intellectual, forms a bridge between the sharers which can be the basis for understanding much of what is not shared between them, and lessens the threat of their difference.

Judith Grahn: “The tribal attitude said, and continues to say, that Gay people are especially empowered because we are able to identify with both sexes and can see into more than one world at once, having the capacity to see from more than one point of view at a time.”

Arthur Evans: “The new socialism is not just political, it is magical and sexual.

Larry Mitchell: “Romantic love, the last illusion, keeps us alive until the revolutions come.

Ram Dass: “If I go into the place in myself that is love, and you go into the place in yourself that is love, we are together in love. Then you and I are truly in love, the state of being love. That’s the entrance to Oneness.

James Broughton: “If you don’t fill your days with love, you are wasting your life.

Andrew Ramer: “We enter a new era in our history.

Raven Kaldera: “Transgendered people have long been robbed of their own spiritual history, not knowing that there were once times and places where ours was considered a spiritual path in and of itself… We are all sacred and it is time that the world knew it.”

Andrew Harvey: “It’s important to realize that you have the divine on your side, that the divine is not against love, or the body or sexuality, the divine wants the complete flowering of body, heart, mind and soul together to produce a completely different kind of human being.”

Queer Spirituality is not about religion. It is the story of lgbt+ people finding out who we are, uncovering our hidden spiritual history as shamans, healers, monks, artists around the planet, discovering what that inheritance means for us today and becoming a force for the growth of love, understanding and compassion in the world. Queers of all faiths and none reveal that beyond the divisions of the old religious paradigms awaits a rainbow land of light, colour and consciousness.

As another queer spiritual ancestor put it:

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I’ll meet you there.

ASTROLOGY is ALL ABOUT YOU!

In the below recording, Ra Sema Ba says Astrology is the Super-Science, the Science of Sciences, is how we can know all things.  All things can be understood through astrology, it’s ultimate use is as a teaching aid designed to help us become psychologically and emotionally whole.

Essentially, astrology is humanity’s oldest field of study, a wisdom tradition that is not really designed to predict the future so much as to show us what is available to us right here and now, if we learn to open our minds and hearts to the totality of what we are as divine spirit manifesting in fleshly form.

Each of the 12 zodiac signs presents its own science of the mind and soul for us to study and grow through.  By identifying the areas where we are strong and where we are weak we can work out what steps we need to take, which parts we need to develop, in order to become more whole and contented.

Aries the Ram is the Science of Self-Defense, of Survival and of Thriving.

Taurus the Bull is the Science of Family and Finance

Gemini the Twins is the Science of Communication and Learning

Cancer the Crab is the Science of Nurturing and Listening

Leo the Lion is the Science of Independence and Self-Mastery

Virgo the Virgin is the Science of Health and Food

Libra the Scales is the Science of Relationships

Scorpio the Scorpion is the Science of the Magical Arts, Psychic and Occult powers

Sagittarius the Archer is the Science of Hope and Meaning

Capricorn the Goat is the Science of Success and Career

Aquarius the Water-Bearer is the Science of Community

Pisces the Fish is the Science of Peace and Perspective

Singing through the clouds

shining through the stars

Rising through the ocean

stirring in the land…..

Queer Spirit….

Calling to queer souls

to remember the ancient ways

celebrating the Oneness of nature and consciousness

the dance of divine design

in which the only thing that believes in separation

is the human mind.

The Sun and Moon and Planets

move through the heavens plotting the way

The Outer and Inner and Transcendent

all must have their day.

Autumn-Winter is the inner season

and Spring-Summer the outer

Transcendence is always accessible

and sexuality from centuries from repression

Revealing the power in the heart

It’s time for us to rise again

Once we held the keys to Spirit

Now once again time to live it

Arriving in Spring: the I AM RAM

aries1

The spirit of Aries is the sense of I AM

Pisces month concludes the winter journey, Equinox brings the point of Balance

between day and night, light and dark, the ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ halves of the year

between the water of Pisces and the fire of Aries

and between the underlying earth energy of Winter and the air spirit of Spring.

During Pisces we experience the full blast of the emotional/spiritual energy affecting us the collective consciousness

Because our materialist scientific medical paradigm does not give due weight and attention to the emotional and spiritual aspects of human life, many are thrown into difficulties and crises by that wave of winter energy, which is actually there to help us heal and renew ourselves ready for the growth period of the year.  The modern pace of life makes little allowance for the space individuals require to understand and process this kind of energy wave, with sickness in the body the inevitable result.

It has been a deeply transformative 6 months for so many people since the Autumn Equinox. This can be viewed as a time of crisis or one of healing opportunity.  How we viewed the Winter journey in our minds will have influenced how we experienced, and felt during it.  Now Winter releases us: Aries arrives and we shift from the feeling place of Pisces into a an action place based on the fire of the I AM, the individual emerging from the ocean of the collective.  Spirit has had a strong grip on our journeys this winter, but now we are released to forge our paths again, looking forward to the more energetic and expressive seasons now beginning. We should however, continue to listen to Spirit.. speaking to us in our hearts, in the trees, in nature, in synchronicities, through animals and people, and follow the path our soul has already dreamed for us.

Our personal independent wave can now find its way and shine its fire-light, liberated from the oceanic pull of feeling every feeling going around and around the cosmos.

We rise as fire out of the water, the Capricorn moon on the Equinox day giving us the drive to see our path and get moving on our goals.  The moon is waning to darkness during the first week of Spring, with a new moon coming in Aries on March 28th.  The inward pull of the waning moon means that this first week of the new season is a time of blending the energies of inner and outer, finishing off the healing work of winter, bringing us to a powerful point of affirmation and direction at the new moon.

Aries energy is passionate, energetic and enthusiastic. It brings initiative, courage and determination, thrives on physical activity and taking challenges. It helps us get things done.  It’s time to be Who We Are.

Our Most Ancient Original Ancestry

ONCE UPON A TIME all Love and Play and Sex between humans on planet earth was natural, normal and not-restricted-by-laws. We lived in the garden of Eden in the sense that we had not made some things right and some things wrong. We experienced the innocence of being a child of creation.. Every day we saw miracles, the wonder of life impressed us. We explored our urges and lived until we died, which we did without fear, for we saw the dance of eternity in all things, we saw that everything runs in cycles – day/night, summer/winter – and we accepted the death between lives.

Our most ancient original ancestry calls to the modern world’s incarnate queer spirits: the transgendered and the gay and lesbian communities, to the hippy rainbow children, to the disabled communities and to the sexual outsiders – to all who are born to question the authority of the status quo and participate in the shift of human consciousness to higher levels of unity and understanding in all areas of life, from the sexual to the social and political, to the spiritual.

Our most ancient original ancestry calls to us all to remember that we are born souls, free and pure made from the divine template – in god’s image (male and female, in his/her image Genesis 1:27), the Atman is Brahman say the Hindus, the I AM is THAT and the nature of THAT is LOVE/ANANDA/LIGHT. They call us to realise that our bodies are temples, and that sexuality is sacred: it is the divine life force, able to open the channels of spirit within and between us. The time has come to overcome and unravel the fears and taboos around sexuality, and instead honour it for its potential to take us on the fast track to self-knowledge and enlightenment.

Our most ancient original ancestry calls the queer peoples to embrace our nature as twin souls/ two-spirits. The native americans were aware that those born with a combination of masculine and feminine energies had certain propensities that made them best suited to certain roles in the tribe, and today the Two Spirits are reclaiming their history and roles.  There is a history of queer/non-binary people taking roles as spiritual functionaries, shamans and healers on every continent.

Our most ancient original ancestry reminds the queer people of the world that we are born today as spirits following the call of the soul to grow into who we really are and to become what we can be – healers and mediums, artists and poets, creators of harmony and balance within the human race.

Many on the planet still fear and hate us. We challenge them to face their own fears. Our existence challenges them to live up to their ideals of love and religion. We are the sign that humanity is ready for a more heart centred era where we learn to live as one spirit, one species, beyond ignorance and prejudice, putting love at the centre of human life, and giving room for all to follow their hearts.

Our most ancient original ancestry lived at a time before ‘Thou Shalt Not’ had not been thought of. In some parts of the world this original state was never forgotten, but a different paradigm became dominant. The call goes out to invoke this knowledge, this remembrance on behalf of all queer souls, for the good of all people, on the planet today.

A Shaft of Inspiration

A SHAFT OF INSPIRATION FROM THE DIVINE MOTHER:

THESE are the interchangeable representations of GOD:

LIFE * LIGHT * LOVE * the three big Ls

I permeate my whole Being with awareness that I am Life, Light, Love right now, right here and that my Consciousness is inseparable from Divine Consciousness, the only Consciousness there is. It becomes for me the continuum for manifesting whatever, whoever I richly, steadfastly desire – be it perfect health, abundance, the right environment round about me, companionship, energy and rest of the adventure which is joyfully my Divine Right so I can freely share my Beingness. I shall not compromise. I shall feel, think, speak and behave out of this base of knowingness. I AM this knowing and this being, for I am that I am! So Be It Now!

We are determining it, it is not determining us. Therefore: perfect health, abundance, companionship, field of labour are our choice. But Divine Director has already chosen! So we are the chooser and the choice. There is but One Way as there is but One Will. Life, Light and Love is ME, and this Me has chosen to incarnate without loss of Divine Identity. Act in accordance with this Knowledge and you act in the full power of God. The skin is the organ of connectedness with all around you. The cells act in obedience to your direction. Keep clean healthy and joyful, playful, abundance-full…. leap for joy and share your joyfulness! We are all connected with one another as the Divine Connection! SO BE IT NOW!

DEAR Children of GOD, be of good cheer! Why not open yourselves to being aware of your place in the Divine Design? For today you are free to accept the full inheritance as Love. Light and Love pour into your hearts and make this day always a magical one. Explore your Divine, unsevered connection enwrapped in the skin of tangible, unconditional feeling of being loveable and loved.

CHANNELLED FOR ME BY THE DIVINE DR CARL SHAPLEY IN 1998

carlshapley

Carlo (1927-2012) was an Ambassador of Peace, an Avatar of the New Age and a Channel of the Ascended Masters.  I met him at the  Connections spiritual conference in London in 1998 and he played a crucial role helping me accept and understand the massive transformation that I was undergoing.  We journeyed together through dimensions, brought messages through from St Germain and the above channelling from the Divine Mother.  Through him I got to speak with Sweet Mother and the great teacher Aurobindo (“we call him Satchi” said Sweet Mother) and learn that my role here is to create and not to channel:  “We want to hear your words, hear your music, we don’t ask you to channel ours.”

Warriors on the Way of Awakening

The Full Moon Eclipse in Leo (February 10/11, 2017) opens a portal for a leap in the collective consciousness of humanity.  The Sun is in the sign of the collective spirit, Aquarius, while the Full Moon shines brightly on our individual manifestations of the Oneness that gives rise to our existence.  The Eclipse indicates a shift in consciousness, coming for us individually but with the potential to make a powerful impact on the whole,  especially regarding our understanding of our place in the whole, and how the whole fits and works as a single dance present in all creation.  Also in how we express our part in that, how we ‘show up’ in the world.

The Eclipse gives us the push to let go of old beliefs.  attitudes, and  behaviours that do not serve our well -being in the world.  Beliefs that foster the experience of separation, alienation and fear within us.  Aquarius is the most cosmic air sign and it wants us to know ourselves as both the individual ego identity and as the awesome, transcendent Oneness that shines within us on its many dimensions.

The materialist, scientific, rational paradigm that seeks to reduce all existence to numbers and equations, is not serving our collective evolution as a species.  Many societies are in crisis. This time of awakening is a time of shift towards a remembering that life is a mystery school, a dream within which we can wake up and learn to dream consciously, creatively, compassionately.

amma_my_religion_love

The idea that life is one consciousness experiencing itself multifacetedly and subjectively, is spreading in the world.  Teachers such as Eckhart Tolle, Amma, Mooji, Deepak Chopra, Adyashanti are leading and revealing the shift as humanity learns that all religions are attempts to shine light on the single Truth. But the deep-rooted beliefs that we carry in separation do not let go easily. If we fully embrace the idea of one consciousness, one love, then that love will transform us absolutely, but it can take time to let go of old thinking patterns and self-destructive attitudes.  This is the path of surrender and grace that monastic communities have long studied, and this is a journey that is best undertaken with support.

Once we have embraced the idea of one consciousness we then embark on a journey of discovery, of questioning and challenges, teaching us to surrender to the path our own soul has already laid out for us.  Embracing life as a mystery school, we start to find signs and wonders, clues and keys to our own spirit and to the infinitude of reality.  Luckily our ancestors left maps for us to use.  The Wheel of the Year is the Pagan calendar which also acts as a guide to the constantly flowing and changing energies of nature, which affect us all the time.  We can deepen our relationship with and understanding of the One Love by being aware of moon phases, celebrating the quarter and cross-quarter festivals, and learning about the energies of the astrological signs, which take us each year on a journey through the soul, into human potential.  Astrology is a wisdom tradition that teaches us much more about the divine complexity of existence than materialist science can touch.  Christianity tried to suppress astrology for centuries because of the knowledge and power it can unlock.

As Eckhart Tolle wrote, “All religions are equally false and equally true, depending on how you use them. You can use them in the service of the ego, or you can use them in the service of the Truth. If you believe only your religion is the Truth, you are using it in the service of the ego. Used in such a way, religion becomes ideology and creates an illusory sense of superiority as well as division and conflict between people. In the service of the Truth, religious teachings represent signposts or maps left behind by awakened humans to assist you in spiritual awakening, that is to say, in becoming free of identification with form.”

The big trap that Christianity is stuck in is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the mystical nature of many of the utterances ascribed to Jesus. When he declared ‘I am the way, the light, the truth’ he was speaking at the cosmic Self, that we all are.  He was in fact telling us ‘I AM IS THE WAY’…. The I AM that we all experience individually is the creator source god.  The Self is what is happening in Creation.  This would have made more sense perhaps to the Jewish people at the time because their name for God, YAHWEH, means exactly that – I AM.  Hinduism gives the same message when it says the ATMAN, the individual soul, IS BRAHMAN, the Oversoul. Each one of us is a manifestation of the ONE.  This basic mystical truth was hidden by religions that became servants of the state, from Roman times onwards.  Religions became systems of control and domination, of separation and division, but the fundamental truth – that the One Spirit can be found within us all, through any sincere spiritual path, and through the simple day to day experience of life lived from the heart – will always be here.

Let’s take Jesus off his cross.  He was put there by those who wish to put us all there.  He symbolised our divinity and our suffering while we played out the game of history.  Jesus is a love god, came to show us what we are.  The Kingdom of Heaven is within, he told us.  Hallelujah. Maybe enough of us are now hearing it for the ripple effect of this Leo Full Moon Eclipse to be huge.   The light of the Leo Self can shine in us as the glory of the Aquarian rebirth coming to humanity.  There are warriors on the way of awakening in position all around the globe and the game is on.

Super Human: Chems and Consciousness

Shamans across the world have always used substances from nature to expand their consciousness and commune with other layers of reality.  Modern humanity has all kinds of chemical magic that we have added to this pot of potential, but pays too little attention to the reality of the multiverse our trips take us too.

LSD opens the mind

Ecstasy opens the heart

Cocaine boosts the power centre

Crystal Meth/G/Mephedrone expand the sexual drive

(at least that’s all gay men seem to be using them for)

rainbowsigns23

If we take them all is human potential unleashed?

Better to understand that human potential exists without the chems

When we understand what we are:  divine ecstatic souls incarnate

Chems become signposts to the Way, doors to our own nature,

That can show us the unity of consciousness on the dance floor

Take us on journeys through the infinite mind space

That can reveal how strong and mighty the love within us is

Can point to our powerful potential as humans

And unlock the spirit trapped in the body.

They can reveal the thing that science keeps concealed

That the mental, emotional and spirit planes

Are vast, eternal and REAL.

15439846_381481922198714_5276028137007389678_n

We have travelled and explored the physical

Right down to the quantum level

But while we are a species trapped in conflict and division

The gates to the other realms remain largely closed

One day all will see that the soul is part of infinity

The mental, emotional and spirit dimensions

Are as real, as vast, or even more so, than the physical

Humans have a lot to explore and discover yet

But we still haven’t got a grip on the basics.

The idea that existence is an accident

Or the result of a physical big bang

Will be as ridiculous in the future

As the idea of a flat earth is to us today.

The idea of denying God

Because of the amount of suffering on planet earth

Will be as ridiculous in the future

As the idea that the earth is the centre of the universe.

rainbowsigns24

Existence is made of the forces of Creation

Preservation and Destruction/Transformation

These are the God powers and they exist in us

We live in a free will zone with divine power

In our thoughts, hearts, will and loins

We are the Creators, Preservers, Destroyer/Transformers

It’s time to own our powers

And recognise

That One Spirit is emanating here

As black, yellow, red, white, as straight, bi, queer

The refugee suffering loss is you

The Age of Aquarius will be online soon.

To get there we have to break so many delusions

Escape and transform so much confusion

But when unity is grasped

And our power so vast

Embraced and channelled for love

The veils will lift and the multiverse be revealed

The r-evolution will come.

Stay strong through the tumult

Life is a game but it’s destination is clear

Move beyond division, move beyond fear

The Age of Aquarius

The Age of the Super Humans

Is almost here.

Gay Sex is Magical

Magic… the act of Transformation of Consciousness at Will

This is what queers do.  When we get together with a shared intention we weave our emotional and sexual energies in ways that create atmospheres, in which magical experiences happen.  Cavernous railway arches become nirvanic dance venues.  Cellars become incredible sex  dungeons.  Park toilets become sex temples.  Woodland cruising areas become Pan’s Arcadia.  Sometimes we take drugs to enhance the experience, and once again we are performing that very act of magic, as defined by Doreen Valiente, English witch prominent in the revival  of the craft from the 1950s in the UK, the act of Transforming Consciousness at Will.

Thing is, there is more to this magic stuff than getting a good fuck.  Sexual energy is powerful when directed through will and especially when empowered by love, as Alistair Crowley discovered.  “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” said Alistair and we could say that many gay men running around on the chemsex  scene at the moment are followers of his creed.  In particular an absence of care and compassion for each other is glaringly apparent, our scenes can be very abusive. It would be better if the ‘Wiccan Rede’ as spoken by Doreen Valiente was deeper in our consciousness  – a few decades after Alistair’s wild experiments in magic Doreen gave us this: “And it harm none, do what ye will.”  We could trace a root for this creed back to St Augustine in the 4th Century AD, who wrote “Dilige, et quod vis fac”, which can be translated as “Love, and do what you will.”  The Free Spirit movements of the Middle Ages developed this into a belief that a soul in a state of love union with god could not sin, whatever they did, a belief the Catholic church took great pains to eradicate.

The forces unleashed in our sexual games can turn out to be stronger than our wills, and is why we also need strong love in our hearts to balance the demanding energies of lust.  The sexual drive, or the urge to get high, can take over our lives.  Never before in recorded human history have men been as free to have sex with each other, shamelessly and promiscuously, as we are now.  AIDS didn’t destroy our new found liberation, though HIV certainly held it back a while.  Now, thanks to PEP and PrEP and undetectable viral loads, that liberation is spinning so fast, out of control for increasing numbers.  GAY MEN ARE PLAYING WITH THE CREATIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE POWERS OF THE UNIVERSE, OPENING THE GATES TO FORCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, INVOKING DEMONS AND  ENTITIES WITH NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH THEM.  Those demons may simply exist within our own beings, or not, but I use  the word to describe dark, hungry, insatiable, destructive forces that can suck away at a person’s soul until we are left emotionless, friendless and empty.  There is rather a lot of this going on, it’s less visible than AIDS, but it is also devastating –  a kind of soul death, though the physical shell, the zombie, lives on.

Gay sex clubs and saunas may disappear, our cottages have closed and our parks are quiet, but more men are cruising than ever before.  We cruise on our phones now.  The sexual urge can be pursued at any moment in any place by anyone. This is a sexual liberation that the world has not seen before. But good magic doesn’t just come from sex.  It comes from our connection to nature, from how we connect to each other, and to ourselves.  Unfortunately too much of the action on the sex scene seems to feed a sense of disconnect and isolation, it is not good magic at all.

The chase is exciting.  The liberation is … liberating.  The pleasures to be had are… unlimited.  The big lie of the scientific paradigm is that pleasure is a just an irrelevant by-product of human life.  Pleasure is rather a core principle of nature.  The glorious diversity and joy in nature surely reveals that?  Life is not all about functionality.  It is also about sensation, pleasure, bliss, union and communion.

rainbowsigns20

A key to working our queer way out of the mess some of gay life seems to be heading deeper into is LOVE.  Not necessarily finding a monogamous partner and shielding ourselves  from  the world’s temptations… it’s more that we need to acknowledge that we have big hearts and that the love in us, just like the sexual joy in us, wants to expand and grow – infinitely.  We are capable to loving many, loving the whole world.  It is the love we carry as queer souls that empowers our magic, our ability to create fabulous zones of creativity, play and release.  When we learn to love ourselves first and bring love to our sex games and love to do all we do then the dark forces that eat away at us will abate.  Loneliness, insecurity, drive our games.  But so does the search to experience, expand and know love.  When we choose to meet each other in order to share love as well as lust we open energy channels that infinitely heighten the experience.  Drugs then will cease to have such a hold.  I once wrote on my Grindr profile… “Chems are a substitute for love… Let’s have more love in our sex games”.  But for some reason this was not allowed by the grindr censor.

Actually, the  greatest single drive behind the massive drug use going on in gay men’s lives in some places, and the equation of sex with drug use, seems to be a wish for uninhibited abandon and surrender to the sexual urge. Drugs switch off the critical mind, which can lead to some poor decision making and severe risk taking, but they allow men to experience themselves as the utterly crazed and liberated sex slut they maybe dream of being.  So I suggest there are two huge steps we could take as gay men to overcome this harrowing and difficult part of our evolution:

  • OVERCOME INHIBITION. This is an individual challenge for each man who wants to feel sexually free, but could be encouraged by ‘public health’ campaigns similar to the safe sex message that we used to be bombarded with from every direction.   We need public campaigns celebrating the liberation that comes from ditching the shame, fear and guilt we carry around sex, that rejoice in arse licking and cock sucking as forms of divine meditation.  “I get so high from having good sex I know drugs would only mess it up” would be the message.
  • VIEW SEX AS MAGIC. Magic is the Art of Transformation of Consciousness at Will. Magic, like sex, shifts our emotional and mental energies into new places.  Through the body’s sensations we can enter elevated states of consciousness –  and increased awareness of chakras, of the play of the elements within us, and of the potential in our hearts to give unconditional love, will take our sex games ever further into magical realms.

I meet guys in their 20s who lament that gay sex has become a drug fuelled pastime in their adult lifetime.   If at that age they can remember a simpler time, we have not come very far down this dark tunnel.  I am not trying to deny that drugs can add to the sexual experience, I am simply observing that what we really seek will not be found via a tina pipe or bump of meph.  We can use enhancements if we choose, but they are a lot more fun if we actually know what we are doing sexually.  And if we really know what we are doing, and are free of the inhibitions that restrict our joy, the drugs will perhaps become a distraction, a hindrance, something easily left behind.

Sodomy is Prayer

Sodomy is prayer

The penis is the most potent symbol of the divine masculine principle

With each ejaculation it has the potential  to create life or deliver disease that can lead to death

The sacred power of sexuality was recognised by ancient religions the world over

India has not entirely lost its heritage here – the Shiva lingam is worshipped still in temples

In India there used to be temples honouring sexuality full of fantastic erotic art which the Christians and Muslims destroyed.

As there had been in the Middle East during the nearly 10 millennia of the Mesopotamian empires

And which still existed amongst the tribes of Israel

Kings Chapter 14 mentions the phallic poles erected as worship of the earth mother Asherah

And male shrine prostitutes, the Qedesha, which means The Holy or Consecrated Ones

But which was translated in the King James Bible simply as sodomites.

Sodomy is about pleasure

Pleasure is the principle of the divine feminine

Receptive receiving the potency of the masculine

It does not matter what gender our body might appear

We are all a mix of feminine, masculine and more

Sodomy opens the backgates  to Heaven

Which as Jesus said is found inside

Those who receive the fist know this best

15590567_10210851435509580_4800500544069659066_n

Throughout ancient Europe the spiritual work was performed by women, feminine men and transgendered people.

The galli were wandering priest/esses of the Goddess Cybele in the time of the Roman Empire

Ergi was the word for the femininsed shamans of Scandinavia

There were male witches burned across Europe during the Witch Hunts as well as female

Christianity has its own queer history.  Saint Sebastian.  Serge and Bacchus.  Saint Anselm. Aelred of Rievaulx, Michelangelo.

But mostly Christianity went about stamping out any traces of the link between male sexual love and the sacred, destroying movements such as the Cathars that accepted it, and wiping out pagan worship, in which it had always featured.  Ancient mythologies all included deities who changed gender, who had same-sex love affairs, who were worshipped in single gender sex cults.

When the Christians went to the Americas they were shocked to find cross dressing gender benders in  same-sex relationships performing  roles as sacred functionaries in the tribes, and sodomy totally accepted as normal, as it was in Africa and the Far East until the Europeans spread their poison.  In China and Japan homosex was even seen as a privilege enjoyed by the monastic classes.  In Africa there are records of powerful  gay male wizards, eg the Quimbanda in Angola

Islam has its own queer history.  Until very recent times Sufi love poetry through centuries reflected the joy of love and intimacy between males.  Rumi, Hafiz are great medieval queer mystics who realised divinity through knowing love with another man

Plato testified to this too.

“Plato’s theory of love is fleshed out in the Phaedrus and the Symposium. Like many Greeks of his era and social position, Plato is most interested in the same-sex desire that can exist between an older and a younger man, but there is no reason to suppose that his theory of love does not also apply to other kinds of erotic relationship. That having been said, Plato distinguishes the kind of love that can give rise to philia from a baser kind of love that is enjoyed by those who are more given to the body than to the soul. Rather than underpin the search for truth, this baser kind of love is almost designed to impede it.

“… if erotic love can be transformed into the best kind of friendship, then it can open up a blissful life of shared understanding in which desire, friendship, and philosophy are in perfect resonance with one another.”

In some parts of the world there are more men exploring their sexual desires for other men more freely, more frequently than ever before

In others men like us live in fear as do other queers

AIDS taught us that unbridled sexuality is dangerous

Drug addiction and dark abusive sexual scenarios are teaching the same thing now to many men

But sexuality is divine, is holy

It can transform us, uplift us or destroy us

We play with fire when we connect sexually with others

Even more so when we take chemicals too

We shift our consciousness through an act of will

Which is the definition of magic

We are witch souls, shamans, playing our games as we always did

But now there are so many of us

And we have so little idea what we are doing.

Fire is the element that lifts us to Spirit

That sets our souls alight

When we play we are praying

Pumping energy into the world

But if our thoughts are dark

Our prayers come out twisted

We are called Gay

Because we are souls ready for Freedom and Joy

But without an anchor in spirit

Without the spirit of prayer

A man can get lost.

If we look for, recognise and give love to god in each other when we meet

Our prayerful play will open heaven’s gates

It will be better than Tina, than Mephedrone, than G

It will be the triumphant return of Sodomy

To the Holy Act it was designed to be.

When Bodies unite and Souls unite

We give birth to Light.

Once upon a time, the whole world over, the phallus was revered as a sacred:
